‘They say a madman has the strength of ten…’

I think of him every time I see anyone drinking a half of Guinness. A lovely actor.

So good to see Demme getting some serious appreciation. His career has a fascinating arc and it’’s scattered with some priceless jewels. Also quietly impressed that David M Stewart knows who Bucks Fizz are.

Oooh. One of their very best.

Prequel to the Turn of The Screw, with Brando playing Quint with an unconvincing Irish accent. Might have been better if Michael Winner wasn’t directing it.

Just noticed The Nightcomers on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social . Marlon Brando and Thora Hird? Hard to resist. Is it any good?

One of the first books that I was obsessed with was Denis Gifford’s Horror Movies: big, glossy and filled with monsters, gore and terrifying beasts. ‘Making Monsters’ sounds like just the kind of book to leave around the house and terrify/inspire a new generation of young horror fans.

Yes, one of the great pleasures of being 15/16 was getting into music and films from the 1960s/70s. Character-defining formative experiences. I hadn’t foreseen the downside, losing them to old age when really, they felt like contemporaries.
