there's a segment of This American Life called The Walls Close In about these people. they loved and hated each other. some of them went insane. one built an orchestra of automatons in a warehouse in New Jersey, arguably becoming the Phantom of the Opera himself

one thing i think about all the time is that Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway on October 9, 1986 and ran until April 16, 2023 and many of the members of its orchestra stayed for the entire run, playing the same music 8 shows a week for 37 YEARS
