Safe streets in Oxford … with accompanying quotes from a car-loving councillor. Please share!
Two elderly people hold hands as they cross a road junction, one using a walking stick.

Caption: ‘… a few indulged individuals can enjoy a quiet road that was never an expectation when they happily moved into their homes.’ Children and adults cycling through a Low Traffic Neighbourhood with a green ‘ROAD OPEN’ sign

Caption: ‘they continue to ignore the devastation and misery this has brought to so many.’

I take my children to school in a double-decker bus just in case I need to invite fifty of them for tea afterwards.

Actually that sounds like a great idea, but not when every other parent does the same.

It's true - as soon as you buy a bike, it's compulsory to use it for every journey.

You couldn't make it up!

Compulsory purchase? It looks like quite a liability. But maybe the council could move into it instead of a Saxon barn …

That's somewhat reassuring!

This is one of the new 'side road entry treatments' on Banbury Road (at St Margaret's Road).

It's a beautifully level invitation to pedestrians ... and a beautifully unmarked invitation to drivers 🤷

It's an interesting read: archive.ph/txD1k

'The past is merely the present, yesterday' - all the more reason to remember the sensitivities of visitors in the present, I'd say.

Not the Oxford Union, which is where edgelords usually play, but the Sheldonian Theatre (although still not officially endorsed by the University).

Free tickets, so tempting to treat him like Katie Hopkins by booking it out then walking out.

I’d never heard of this weird American blogger before but somehow he’s been invited to speak at Oxford later this month!

‘Reliably controversial’ 🙄

The Dawit Isaak Library in Malmö is releasing a special edition of Orwell’s 1984. The book cannot be read, on account of having two spines. The “double bind” is a protest against censorship across the world: malmo.se/boundbookspr...

They called us scum, pedos (for some reason) and “Jew haters”. Some of them shouted “pop the boats and drown them all”, unchallenged by their mates. We held up signs like these.

This is like my idea of putting England flags on speed cameras to stop them being cut down by patriotic drivers

I asked a Christian baker to write Charlie Kirk on a gay wedding cake and we've been staring at each other for 39 straight hours now

Part of why so many genteel pensioners are getting arrested for supporting a proscribed group is because they can afford to be arrested. It’s not just that it’s bad optics to arrest retired vicars or whatever. Lots of those who feel strongest would be at much higher risk and face worse consequences
