A yellow ball-shaped structure sits atop a railroad tie in a suburban yard. Its surface looks like interwoven strands of plastic seen on dish-scrubbing sponges. The once vibrantly colored slime mold shaped like a spheroid dish scrubbie is now deflated, with rusty brown and black across most of its upper surface and crusty pale edges. It is maybe sporulating.
