Happy with the recent progress on my real-time GPU-driven fractal flame animation project! The video is transcoded from the built-in animated GIF creation facility - so each frame only uses 256 colours, max - but it's still looking pretty swish!

'Computors', not just 'plugboard operators'. You should read Proving Ground by Kathy Kleiman or The Innovators by Walter Isaacson.

Kay McNulty invented the subroutine concept to better use logic circuit capacity. (Harvard Symposium in Jan 1947).

Before Wheeler Jump subroutine method of 1951.
Around the same time that Grace Hopper was doing so at Harvard, the women of ENIAC were developing the use of subroutines. They were fretting that the logical circuits did not have enough capacity to compute some trajectories. It was McNulty who pushed a solution. "Oh, I know, I know, I know," she said excitedly one day. "We can use a master programmer to repeat code." They tried it and it worked. "We began to think about how we could have subroutines, and nested subroutines, and all that stuff," recalled Jennings. "It was very practical in terms of doing this trajectory problem, because the idea of not having to repeat a whole program, you could just repeat pieces of it and set up the master programmer to do this. Once you've learned that, you learn how to design your program in modules. Modularizing and developing subroutines were really crucial in learning how to program." Just going through some old "yearly-misc" images & vids for fun, and in 2009 I thought it was a great idea to save a 14MB 4k by 6k image of the poster for the LucasArts game "The Dig":

My real-time fractal flame project is getting there - less "pixely" and better density estimation for areas without high sample counts... It's not perfect yet, but it's getting there.

This is WIP, and WIP is better than not trying - so I'm lapping the people who just 'wish it so' :)
A real-time Fractal Flame generated via custom code - it's not perfect and has a "slice" of black / zero-density near the top-right of the image. I'll fix this, I'm confident I can figure it out (with A.I. assistance, lol) - but it's not there yet.

When you're watching the context & hoping it finishes the feature before we hit zero and it auto-compacts... nope.

Even writing a good plan before clearing is moot at this point - most of the important details are now lost to make room for new info... about stuff! And junk!

When the context auto-compacts it keeps only "important" information about what you were working. Unfortunately, the LLMs idea of what important what you deem important are different things - and quality will decrease.
