Whiskey hobbyist, optimist. One of those people that likes everything. Let’s be friends
Years ago, at the advice of a friend with an absolutely stunning whiskey collection, I got a water dropper to use in tastings.

(I use something like these, which you can find pretty easily)

One of my favorite things to do with a new whiskey is to add a drop of water to see how it changes the smell and taste.

How much are we changing it though?

Time for some #WhiskeyMath here on #WhiSKY.

Some Wednesday #WhiskeyMath on converting 🥃 volume measurements!

Wine, whiskey, and other spirits are sold with bottles marking their volumes in milliliters (mL). The most common size is 750 mL (or a “fifth”, referencing a fifth of a gallon).

Best way to do a tasting is with friends! Glad I have a neighbor that does these with me.

This tasting was all about Penelope - only two samples this time, but a good brand for sure! I’ll definitely consider more of their products after this.

It’s International Women in Engineering Day - I’d like to recognize those engineers out there in the whiskey industry! We appreciate you!

Tannins and lignin react with air as they are extracted from the wood, taking the clear make turning it into that brown color we all know and love.

Today’s #WhiskeyScience post is all about the COLOR of bourbon (and other whiskeys too, I guess 😉)

Bourbon gets its color from the barrel during aging. But WHAT is it, exactly, that imparts that heavenly amber hue? 🥃

I was curious, so I went and dug for the answer.

Time for a 🧵

Lesson learned: don’t try to shove a scrub brush down into your glencairn

The Kentucky Artisan Tasting Lounge was a total blast. Marshall and Alexis were so much fun to talk with!

Marshall gave me some great insight to the “mad scientist” feel of distilling - I think I’m gonna have to go back soon to talk more with him.

Definite recommend for bourbon trail trips!

The geology in Kentucky, with lots of limestone aquifers, lends itself to good conditions for lots of mineral rich, iron-free water sources.

An “aquifer” is an underground layer of water-bearing rock that stores (and filters) groundwater.

Today’s #WhiskeyScience topic is a little bit of geology: how limestone can impact bourbon!

🧪🪨💧🥃

One of the things about Kentucky that led to good bourbon is the presence of good-tasting, clean groundwater.

This month’s tasting group was all about Wyoming Whiskey - I liked all three releases and would happily buy it!

With these two new filings w/ the TTB, it’s clear that bourbon stock ages are going up, up, up

I don’t typically care for bourbon-flavored food, BUT this is delicious. Tastes like they just took good bourbon balls and mixed them into the ice cream!

As the youths say, this slaps. Way to go, @graeters.bsky.social and @newriff.bsky.social

Tried this barrel proof rye from Whiskey Thief and hooooooly cow is it an easy drinker. I’m considering going to their place in Louisville to get a bottle myself!
