More Sandhill cranes stage up prior to #migration. Central Wisconsin. (Might have to tap image for full effect.) #BirdoftheDay. 🪶
An autumnal field is filled with tall gray birds.

#Migration season is definitely upon us. Sandhill cranes gather by the thousands at staging areas prior to moving to their wintering grounds. This image of Sandhills in front of the full moon was taken at Crex Meadows in northwestern WI. #BirdoftheDay 🪶
A full moon glows orange over a marsh. It has risen between a break in the treeline and is reflected in the water. Several Sandhill cranes fly across the face of the moon.

What a lovely message from @bookshop.org. Glad to see them growing and growing. We CAN claim back what has been taken from us by these monstrous corporations, and it starts with things like this. Grab some books these next couple days!

Journalist Edward R. Murrow used his platform on CBS to criticize the witch hunts led by Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s.

This is what real journalism should do — hold power to account, not capitulate to it.

Never a bad day when you look out into your yard and see this. Video of 3 Sandhill cranes, one a chick, in my backyard. Taken through my living room window. 🪶

Poor birds. I was gone most of the day. #CatsIndoors #Birds
If you don’t hear the birds making warning calls that means they don’t see her or don’t recognize her as a threat because they didn’t evolve with her.

Another example of #rest for #BlueSkyArtShow. A White pelican in repose.

Finally getting to post for #BirdoftheDay. Today I saw it was #ducks. I erected a Wood duck house in my yard in 2017 and have had one or two broods every year since.
A pair of ducks sit on a log in a creek. One is drsb brown & the other is very colorful A female Wood duck prepares to enter her nest box. Her feet are forward and her wings are back as she aims at the hole. A male Wood duck is seen blurred in the back ground. Two fuzzy brown and yellow ducklingd have lept from their nest box. They appear to be flying in that brief moment before gravity takes hold and the drop into the water below.

Oh to be a Japanese macaque soaking in a hot spring. They look quite content. For #BlueSkyArtShow theme of #relax
Two very fuzzy, tan colored and red-faced, mokeys sit submerged in a hot spring. Steam wafts in the air about them.

"Mama, tell me a story."
"Sure, baby, but then you have to tuck in and go to sleep."
#birdoftheday bedtime, #goose version.
A close-up photo of a fuzzy yellow gosling standing on its mama's back. The gosling is resting its forehead on the white cheek of the adult Canada goose. A fuzzy yellow gosling is lying on it's mama's back and lookinh towards the camera. The black and white head of the afult is turned toward the chick with it's beak open as if talking to the baby.

An example of extreme sexual dimorphism is seen in this pair of Kelp geese. Photo taken in Ushuaia, Argentina. #Birdoftheday theme of #goose. 🪶
One white goose with yellow legs and a black beak stands next to a black goose with white stripes on its breast and belly, also with yellow legs but with a pink beak. The pair stands on a rocky beach against a rusting bulkhead.
