Replenished my roux supply. A nice golden brown... the promise of many curries and gravies to come.

I save leftover fats from cooking until I have enough, then cook them with flour and stir stir stir... now i can freeze it in chunks to use for the next few months.

Opening the first jar of egg nog after 2 weeks. It needed a bit more sugar but it's quite pleasant. Looking forward to seeing how the flavour develops...

I was in Denningers today and it smelled delicious... I had to give the currywurst a try.

Now that the growing season is over, I cut my carolina reaper plant back a little. I'm going to try one more time to grow the cuttings as clones, this time trying with bigger pieces.

Wanted to use up some tofu, anchovies, and the last of this year's jalapeños. Marinated with lemon, honey and coriander. A sauce of roux, garlic, a little carolina reaper, and star anise. The anchovy is strong, I could almost believe the tofu was baccala. Extremely satisfying.

I'll never get over the original pitch for Quake, back in Commander Keen, when it was supposed to become something completely different.

Found these adorable cut rock candies at the bulk food store. I don't even want to eat them I just want to look at them.

"It still tastes like soap!"
Thrills gum seems to be the only Canadian candy that uses the flavour of musk.

Within this vale of toil and sin, your head grows bald, but not your chin.

Experimenting with making eggnog for the first time. Gotta let it sit in the fridge for a few weeks before I'll found out how good it is...

The plot of the game was that you live in some post-calamity desert, but find a portal that goes to a wet and green world. Eventually you discover that it's actually a time portal to the past. I had made this application icon to represent this concept visually.

The fiery title screen of an RPG I was trying to make in 1998.

Yesterday the kids on the bus asked me what I was going to be for Hallowe'en and I realized what I had to do...

You are likely to be eaten by a grue?

While kids on the bus, I'm not allowed to get out. Yesterday I had to stick my head and arm out the window to get someone's attention, and I felt like Captain Ron.

The honey locusts around here were the first trees to change colour this fall. I wonder if the "honey" name came from their little golden leaves? They seem to pile up along the curb, gilding the streets and paths.

I've been making neeps and tatties for a long time, but they've really been on another level ever since I acquired some MSG. 😙👌🥔🍠

It's time to start harvesting these peppers. The jalapeños I'll probably pickle. I put about ¼ of this first reaper onto some spicy honey sesame gochujang chicken wings. 🌶

Managed to find some mooncakes this year. The "double yolk" variety makes them quite heavy eating. Maybe next year I'll try to make some myself. 🥮

I have a bucket! ...hat.

It's the bucket from @juliaminamata.bsky.social 's The Crimson Diamond.

Filtered the result to remove any leftover fuzzy bits. I think the acidity is probably strong enough that it's safe to drink as-is, but I gave it a boil anyway, which also helped dissolve a good helping of sugar into it. It tastes pretty nice, similar to lemonade or tamarind.

Was thinking about sumac as a spice lately, but then in my curiosity about trees I came to learn that sumac is a tree that grows wild all over town. Apparently the berries make a good "lemonade". I picked some and soaked them for 24 hours...

It's funny how Wikipedia articles on mythology are always written in a way that each sentence just raises more and more questions.

Like we can only put the agreed details, but trying to connect them coherently would be forbidden "original research"?

I put a spoonful of sumac in my creamed corn and it was a really incredible flavour compliment. I will definitely do this again. 🌽

I've been playing Final Fantasy Tactics. Beautiful setting and storytelling, truly inspiring art. Also, at some point you stop trying to fight monsters and just turn everybody into frogs and praise them because, of course, that's just better training. Right? ✨🐸✨
