The cleric offers a piece of bread. The lightning elemental turns it into toast. The cleric puts it down, and the lightning elemental explodes it.

We end with the conversation still going on, but reasonably sure they'll have to fight to proceed.

The disembodied voice is scolding someone, *probably* the lightning hulks, for wasting time. The PCs have realized that they can chat with the lightning hulks and learn things about the Elemental Plane of Air, and they kind of feel each other out telepathically.
brandesstoddard.bsky.social
Two lightning hulks appear, similarly disoriented and asking the PCs (in Auran, which the PCs don't speak) what they should do. The wizard has Comprehend Languages up, so understanding only goes in one direction.

The cleric casts Telepathic Bond, and it's suddenly a whole different encounter.

They move on to the next island, and the island behind them disappears completely. The PCs are urging Leodora to take charge, and she really doesn't want to do it. What the PCs don't see is that she is actually getting stronger with each encounter they resolve.

They put together, through good rolls, that this has something to do with Savras the All-Seeing, even though he's been dead for over a hundred years, and even though dwarves don't really care about prophecy (there's no dwarven god of prophecy per se, and the closest cognate... isn't close.)

On a rock sticking out of the water, they find a bow - not a real bow, but a painted stone imitation of a bow. Leodora reads words on it that no one else sees:

"The cruel one, the thousand faces, he sees
Back to the beginning, in pursuit"

This leads to a bunch of Arcana and Religion checks.

It's a short fight, but Leodora is badly positioned and one of the mud hulks crits on her. I also describe the mist hulk's voice rising to a crescendo (I didn't want to open with the Terrible Wailing - I wanted to see if they'd put it down in time to stop it. They did.)
brandesstoddard.bsky.social
Beyond the door they find islands sticking up out of water. The islands are paved with flagstones and connected with wooden bridges or close enough to leap between.

At the second island, two mud hulks and a mist hulk appear, looking confused. A disembodied voice commands them to attack.

Tagging along on this adventure was the sister of the two dwarf brothers, Leodora. She had never really found her calling in life and thought she wanted adventure like her brothers.

Leodora has AC 16 and 20 hit points, and needs to survive the adventure.

Post-Dragon Heist Session 98

The PCs explore a strange door that had appeared in their clanhold. It had silver doorposts and the door looked like obsidian, with a faint electrical aura. Giantish runes were upon it.

"Enter here for the soul's testing
Enter here for the awakening of gifts"

Post-Dragon Heist Session 97

In tonight's session, the PCs finished their investigation by confronting their suspect, Saolna, and getting a confession from her. They learned that she was in trouble with the Zhentarim because of her brother, and the Zhentarim forced her to steal the clan's relics.

Post-Dragon Heist Session 96

In tonight's session, the PCs continued their investigation, mainly talking to two NPCs and finding out what happens when they provide the information they have. It's a pretty cold case, so they're not finding a lot of physical clues.

A doppelganger is involved.

I haven’t played Godbound - I read a bit of it some years ago - but this is a great sales pitch for the game!

If you (or say, David M. Willis) create a short informative piece of writing avout how to get the best use of your Transformers toys, that would be an optimized primer.

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

Signis and Gron are dead and/or waiting for Godot.

Huge, huge pain in my ass. *Was* that Memory Locket worth it? Maybe.

Now I'm back to exploring the Citadel. I've got the Songclave up and running.

Okay, cleared the gauntlet fight that lets me improve the runback for Forebrothers Signis and Gron. I haven't beaten the Forebrothers yet but I'm making progress.

The real monster was an old white man with a real estate scheme? hm, I feel like there was a TV show that tried to warn us about this.

RPG Tip: As a player, lean into bonds. Friendships, rivalries, and debts create richer stories than gold pieces. Besides, it's more fun to swim in a giant vault of gold pieces with a friend. #DnD #TTRPG

Sounds right

(tbh I knew I could quite do this joke justice without 40 hours of deep dive into the lore of CONTROL *and* This Old House, and I was hoping someone would lift it and get it right)
brandesstoddard.bsky.social
I can't believe I only now realized that Bob Vila has been the public face of the Federal Bureau of Control for decades, as he exclusively works on manifestations of This Oldest House.

Or maybe he got kicked out of the FBC and he's trying to find a way back in?
