"People really forget that we're human beings."

I wrote about the deep challenges facing Black transgender youth and their families and the support network some are creating to help others navigate a moment of heightened political hostility. capitalbnews.org/black-parent...

Whenever someone asks me what is one media outlet I read or check everyday, it’s hands down @capitalb.bsky.social. The depth, framing and coverage choices are so good and necessary in this moment. Please follow and support the Black Press. There are many others, too.

One Battle After Another, a Thomas Pynchon adaptation that Paul Thomas Anderson has dreamed of making for decades, is his first real action movie, a raunchy, funny, pulse-pounding thriller w/ Leo DiCaprio as a burnout revolutionary in a fascist dystopia that's all too real.

We've explored how residents in Mississippi are documenting Black history, how advocates in Minnesota are defending their basic right to vote as federal protections are eroded, and how women in Texas are fighting for clean air.

Those deaths were devastating (Hybrid Theory has no skips, and “Interstate Love Song” is probably one of my favorite songs ever). Also Chris Cornell 💔

So to say music critics have lost their edge bc fear (of fans or of direct diatribes from artists) makes no sense. Music writing was always freewheeling AND beholden to the industry. Critical writing ALWAYS existed next to fan service puff pieces! Poptimism did not make criticism weak tea

“There are all of these issues percolating around the Voting Rights Act,” said Valencia Richardson of the Campaign Legal Center. “And they raise these existential questions about the future of the greatest voting rights legislation this country has ever passed.”
Why Voting Is Becoming Harder for Black Americans in Southern States
Since a 2013 case that scaled back federal approval of voting changes, Black access to the ballot box has become increasingly uncertain, advocates say.

Loveee her! "Love Me Different" is my favorite on the album, I think (probably because it sounds the most like a Paramore song).

NEW: Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s defense team says that the government is attempting to coerce him to plead guilty to his criminal charges.

Per filing, the government promised to deport him to Costa Rica if he pleads guilty — and is now threatening to remove him to Uganda if he doesn’t accept the deal.
The only thing that happened between Thursday-Costa Rica-and Friday-Uganda-
was Mr. Abrego's exercise of his legal entitlement to release under the Bail Reform Act and the
Fifth Amendment. See United States v. Salerno, 481 U.S. 739, 755 (1987). Indeed, the government has done more than just offer these two options in isolation. On Friday evening, the government informed Mr. Abrego that he has until first thing Monday morning precisely when he must report
to ICE's Baltimore Field Office-to accept a plea in exchange for deportation to Costa Rica, or
else that offer will be off the table forever. There can be only one interpretation of these events:
the DOJ, DHS, and ICE are using their collective powers to force Mr. Abrego to choose between a guilty plea followed by relative safety, or rendition to Uganda, where his safety and liberty would
be under threat.
Mr. Abrego has previously explained that this case was part of a larger strategy to retaliate
