As we prepare for the 2025-26 school year, some things to consider and keep perspective.

Beloit used to do a list of things to know about incoming freshmen. Anyone have something similar for their students?

We've been using Flippity www.flippity.net for years at my school, and now I see this message. Any idea what's up?

Last week I was lasercutting fins for rockets (science 6).
One of the teachers I helped (I did about 20 sets total) just sent me pics of how they look when attached. These were the 2nd iteration students built. Looking forward to the launches this week! #Glowforge #makered #EDUSky

Lasercut fins for rockets. They will be covered in duct tape when attached to 2 liter water rockets for launching. @glowforge.bsky.social makes it easy! Other designs were done in Tinkercad. Love giving kids choice. #Edusky

Exploring Sparky from Google Arts and Culture
Made a Symphonic Swirl Machine - Part candy machine, part light show - Would be a fun writing prompt or engineering activity!

Here's how the Algorithm @padlet.bsky.social activity turned out today. REALLY good discussion about precision and sequence. #edusky #CSk8

Task - students were asked to design a solution to keep a teacher’s kids from bringing their phones into the bathroom. Some scale issues, but fun task. Looking forward to feedback. #makered #EduSky

My 6th graders using @padlet.bsky.social to design algorithms to replicated drawings. Next class, they'll need to walk peers through their algorithms.

I've created a Starter Pack for ISED - Independent School Educators - folks who work/teach in independent schools primarily in the US. go.bsky.app/16hW58o #ISED

In 2022 my youngest started a school SIG for girls & nonbinary folks who wanted a non-competitive environment to explore tech, CS, engineering & digital arts. She graduated in 2023, but the Lovelace Society continues. I'm wondering how other schools support girls interested in these areas. #edusky

Cool - looks like the Microbit just snaps in. Looks like it supports jacdac, too.

I've done that with a Microbit and Makecode, but not a Microbit and Makecode Arcade. I think I see what you're talking about, though.

Switching content languages preference off to see what I’m missing. I know there’s a whole world beyond the English language, including lots of educators. Hoping I can find a list of educators around the globe to follow and learn from/with. #EduSky

It's Friday afternoon, and this box of duct tape has made my life much easier. I'd love to hear guesses as to why.
Hint: I do instructional tech and "live" in a middle school.

Work with kids (or adults) and data? Spreadsheets?
Check out Slow Reveal Graphs. Any guesses as to what this graph represents? See these to find out.

Cool drawing/contest from Cricut for schools

The winning school receives super-useful tools for making. We have at least a half dozen Cricuts K-12; used by students and adults. Wish their app was web-based, though. #EDUSky

I shared this with one of our school counselors. This could be good for folks struggling with body image. Glad I'm not overly sensitive. Here's what came up for my body type. Maybe they should have a content warning 😏
School discussions around use of AI can have lots of tendrils.

Starting Makecode Arcade unit in my CS6 class tomorrow. Only 5 more classes left - just enough time to plan, build a game, and share projects. GIF of demo game below. #EduSky #Edtech

Some of our cardboard arcade games - Whack-A-Flapjack.- think whack-a-mole but with pancakes (made of cardboard). Lil' Foosi was a big hit as well. By the end of the week (lasering and design help), I was happy to staff a ticket booth (trading tickets for candy)! 23 booths total! #EduSky

Our "Lovelace Society" (A SIG for female & nonbinary kids in grades 6-12 interested in creative technology) meets most Mondays after school. One of our 7th graders - new to Tinkercad - designed this. 3 hour print - can't wait for her to pick it up! #EDUsky #edtech
