I heard stories from copywriters who had to move back home with their parents. Staff copywriters whose work has all but been turned over to AI, and no longer have anything to do. Others are trying to retrain for a new career in their 50s. One shared that they had been pushed into sex work.

William Gibson has a fascinating excerpt in Neuromancer about how companies, when big enough, become essentially *amoebas*. They stop thinking. They could eat the whole world but all they know is *reacting*. But instead of reacting to toxins, it's shareholder/board value.

I don't think models are alive but we should assume they are not because of a basilisk or pascal's wager but because it brings back the feeling of opening a portal into another dimension that I had when I used the internet in 2005
