Personally when I was playing the game competitively for the first time, GC controllers and wheelieing/tricking with the d-pad was hella weird for me at first (used to be a wii-mote user as a kid lol). Once I got used to it though, the controls felt amazing

But really though, for most people who played Wii first it's usually the other way around where 8's inside drift feels hella awkward, so it might be a matter of preference
But it also depends on which specific vehicles you are using? As long as it's not Spear/Sneakster it's good imo
