"To help cut off US arms to Israel we'd have to more frequently work with people who don’t agree with us on everything. More leftists have to leave their comfort zone of being a powerless opposition, protesting on the sidelines, expressing outrage online"

tbqh, my support for platner has a lot less to do with him and a lot more to do with him being a strong alternative to her. i think thats the case for a lot of (especially) younger people involved in dem politics here

as a trans woman in maine i can't express how much i appreciate that she did this and stood up for us. especially back in feb before opposition had really started. proud of my vote for her!

but i also think people less familiar with her over index it in their mental image of her

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

on a similar note, it kinda flew under the radar but the senate president is backing one of the other non-mills candidates
breadnrosie.bsky.social
his endorsement page is something
breadnrosie.bsky.social
is he worth reading? i got a copy of after virtue a while ago since a friend of mine was into his stuff, but havent really cracked it open yet

i think that kind of underplays the significant extent to which the russian republic itself was heavily responsible for the break up of the union. certainly nationalists such as putin disliked it insofar as it was the end of a russian centered empire, but it doesnt play out like it does w/o yeltsin

the bush x gorbachev relationship is fascinating
breadnrosie.bsky.social
thats kind of what i mean by "conservative" lol. like if your aim is to retain the union, gorbachev's personal idealism, and unwillingness to use any kind of force gets in the way.
breadnrosie.bsky.social
yes and no, it somewhat depends at which point of his time in office we're talking about. 1989 for sure. 1985 maybe not
breadnrosie.bsky.social
this is getting a bit into counterfactuals, and so not necessarily useful for making the point, but i don't think its especially unreasonable to conclude the soviet union could have transformed into something similar to what you guys are describing if gorbachev had been slightly more conservative

idk very much about california bq polling, but at least over here the rule of thumb is the yes % is a ceiling that will go down, and undecideds all vote no, so maybe thats part of it? like if i saw something that was like 54% yes at the start of bq id be like ok we're fucked
breadnrosie.bsky.social
about this poll specifically or the campaign more generally?
breadnrosie.bsky.social
oh yeah absolutely not a defense of the morons actually running things. theyre dumb as nails
breadnrosie.bsky.social
its not dissimilar to how you get endless unsolicited advice managing campaign volunteers, all of which they think is brilliant but which is universally bad or something already happening
breadnrosie.bsky.social
especially true w/ electoral campaigns, tactics, messaging etc. we all think we have the Secret and all our beliefs are couched in "this is how you win the election"
breadnrosie.bsky.social
there's nothing with VAN's legal requirements that would be involved here.

there is a 200 post thread on the dsa forums where yeah the main rationale is that it would be unfair to republicans

Our Weekend of Action was packed full of good people across the state, turning up to ensure absentee voting remains accessible for us & our neighbors.

Look at all these "No on Question 1" faces!
breadnrosie.bsky.social
you should reread what i wrote. thats what i am talking about. the national org is blocking VAN access to the california chapters because they are working on that. you can't really actually campaign w/o van
breadnrosie.bsky.social
i am not lol what are you talking about. cali dsa endorsed prop 50 all of the shit you can find in favor by googling is from those people. but the national org is opposed to that and for example, is blocking VAN access for them. i was on dsa's npc until like 8 months ago i know what im talking about

One day. Five hundred miles. Three town halls in small town Maine. Four hundred people.

We will leave no person and no place behind.
