Well it's taken a few years but we have finally made it. It took quite a bit to get it over the line in the end, but Lee Bee has done a phenomenal job on the music

BubbleBack, our sequel to Forward to the Past, now available for free on Itch.

Enjoy!

It's October 1st, which means that we now know how many ZX Spectrum games we need to review for Issue 3 of BreakSpace.
And it's...57. Fifty seven new games.

Will the team get them all done by deadline? Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, Issue 2 is still fabulous and free at

I don't know what the overlap between Speccy fans and tabletop fans is, but if you've any interest in RPGs or Warhammer or the like, you should be buying this. It's a tremendous magazine.

WS7 officially out this week and dropping through letterboxes. just imagine this could be you in 24-48 hours (if you live in the UK, and a little bit longer elsewhere (but hey, more time to get excited for its arrival...))

A free, downloadable Spectrum magazine? What a terrific idea.

This is a fantastic conversion, which we even snuck onto our issue 2 Frogger cover.
A detail of the BreakSpace issue 2 cover, featuring the Gorf mothership partially hidden behind a cloud. Please don't ruin Frogger's day, Gorfians. He's worked hard for that ice-cream.

A space shooter. Based on the arcade coin-op from Bally Midway in 1981.
5 differing levels and a fantastic conversion. Gorf fans will be pleased! 😆👍🕹️

Telethugs is indeed tremendous.

It's worth noting though that the ZX Spectrum version is already out. We reviewed it in our issue 2.

Covering Speccy games for a free magazine is clearly not the same as running RPS, but the linked article has some great advice for reviewers generally.

It also overlaps nicely with our half-formed review policy for BreakSpace. So now we don't have to clarify that, just point at this instead. Tidy.

One of the few regrets from my years at Dicebreaker was only meeting Graham Smith once, in person. An instructive and necessary epitaph to his editorial run at RPS and GamerNetwork, both for me and anyone wanting to cover tabletop.

R-Type in BASIC.
You have to applaud the ambition!

"B-TYPE" is one of my proudest game developments to date so far, unfortunately I may have posted it at the wrong time on itch as it didn't get much attention.

A lot of you retro gaming types will be jetting off on holidays about now, so why not load up your tablets with a 92-page ZX Spectrum magazine? Perfect reading to accompany your pool-side Margaritas.
Especially since it's just been updated to fix a couple of nasty typos.

What are people saying about the new Summer issue of BreakSpace, the ZX Spectrum review magazine available free at breakspace.itch.io/issue-2 ?
Things like this, which is pretty terrific.
A screenshot from itch.io from poet laureate ( I assume ) r-lyeh stating "If this is not actually your favourite ZX magazine idk wth you're doing with your life"
Which is about as good a review as we could have hoped for. Succinct and forceful.
