Hello! I'm Bre, a mixed-Mexican-American writer. I'm working on a book series called Jackrabbit Brujo that takes place in Tucson, Arizona, and is heavily inspired by the works of Gloria Anzaldúa.

I also draw, watch a lot of movies (mostly horror) and play video games. Links to my books below!

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Trying to make a distinction from "this is art the artist makes to deal with trauma" and "this is the artist's very clear fetish" puts the privacy of real life victims at risk. I shouldn't have to give you a laundry list of all my triggers and traumas for you to decide my art has the right to exist

I try to focus this account so it's for my readers, but hey writers:

NEVER sign a contract where the publisher keeps your rights indefinitely. For short stories, there should be a point when you can sell reprints.

and NEVER sign your movie/TV/etc adaptation rights to a publisher. Those are yours.

She is currently learning how to walk with a cone for a head but we cant get a properly sized one until monday 😭 but i have to have her wear it otherwise the lesion on her face isnt healing...still i have antibiotics and hope that will carry her thru to an appt on tuesday
