BA in English. MFA of hard knocks in undecided. Avid reader. Part-time music snob. Married, childless cat dad of 2. I have voted Democratic since 1983. Happy to be living in the state of Illinois. I'll have fries with that.
Don't stay agitated. Don't give in to despair. Stop the doomscrolling. Get out of the house and carry a sign.

Some of my favorite signs at today's No Kings Protest in Oak Park, IL. Lots of good, positive, and peaceful trouble.

At this point, I'm wishing for James Bond, Jack Bauer, or Black Belt Jones to take down Elon Musk and all the evil-doers behind him.

Elon and the tech bro mafia are going to fire a ton of government employees, gut government services (especially ones that help vulnerable citizens), and steal social security benefits, veteran's benefits, and government worker's pensions. I hope he takes a flight in one of his own rockets soon.
Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

His far from humble minion Donald is pretty terrible, too.
Elon Musk is a terrible president.

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Berwyn Public Library is an essential part of the community. In addition to books (generous YA and children's sections), music and video, they offer online classes, access to computers, workshops, book clubs, a writer's group, and great cool and helpful librarians.

With all the irritating noise from the bad news out there, I was so happy tonight to see the Christmas tree in the Great Hall (lives up to its name) of Union Station, Chicago.

The poem I most enjoyed reading this week by Danielle Coffyn.

One of the more encouraging things I have read this week. The Trump Reign of Error Part 2 is too undisciplined, sloppy, and unfocused to carry out their plans. They will do a lot of harm, but they will not win in the end. There is no love in what they want to do.
"The Achilles heel of authoritarians is they confuse power and domination, and end up struggling to hold a coalition together.

"As we saw with the Gaetz immolation, there will be plenty of opportunity to stoke the intra-GOP tensions."

Resistance is not futile: Gaetz's implosion shows how to use MAGA's own chaos against them
Trump's first nominations reveal the serious fractures in his coalition — which can be used to weaken him

I get it. The NBA wants to hype up the Emirates In-season tournament. However, viewing this Bulls vs. Cavs game is hard on my TV viewing eyes.

In other words: "It's the right thing to do, but that's not how we Republicans roll."
Johnson: I'm going to strongly request the ethics committee not to issue a report because that is not the way we do things in the house. And I think that would be a terrible precedent..

One of my favorite beers. I scratch my head and wonder why it seems so right for these times.

The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry: a great poem for troubled time...

I visited The Pile Bookstore in Berwyn, IL. Somehow, I just couldn't pass this up. I like both authors. It may be a literary Hedda Hopper vs. Louella Parsons, so I will be glued.

Sometimes, I find autumn to be kind of psychedelic.

I put the streaming service on shuffle, and this was the first song played. Made the drive home so much better.

I like this new place. Maybe because the name Blue Sky reminds of the Irving Berlin song "Blue Skies." (BTW, I am partial to the Willie Nelson version). Don't lose hope in advance. Be kind. Trump Reign of Error Pt. 2 has an even worse gang around him who can't shoot straight. Hate always loses.
