It’s a “feature” of Submittable. I haven’t used it as an editor because it strikes me as weird and a little suspicious as well.

When people _still_ submit to the wrong category (and yes, they do), we know they deliberately ignored instructions so we don’t feel as bad withdrawing (not declining) for not following instructions.

We added a required checkbox to our category form: “I understand that this form is for [the correct thing] and not for [the wrong thing].”

“That’s not really what we do here anymore” is exactly the vibe that’s been coming from the main website & docs for a while now. I guess it was a matter of time.
Still, isn’t “submission” generic enough to cover all the scenarios without alienating the literary community?

It would be weird if you *didn’t* sing the word “submissions” just like “Traditions” from fiddler on the roof.

… especially because “the only reason this journal hasn’t closed and declined its queue is that the editors are holding onto vain hope that they will be operating again in the reasonable future” is too long.

I only know this much about creative writing because I hate myself
