INT WESTERN SALOON - NIGHT Apparently everyone got paid that day, because all of the men in the town are there, drinking, gambling, and whoring. But the place falls silent when Anita enters. Stares and whispers, eyes on her bag. ANITA (muttering) I hate being popular. Anita bellies up to the bar and places the bag on top. The BARTENDER (50s M, a ruggedly ugly linebacker that went to seed) walks over with a glass and a bottle. BARTENDER What'll ya have? He glares at the rest of the bar, and everyone suddenly minds their own business again. ANITA Whiskey. Rocks. The Bartender smirks. BARTENDER We look like we got ice? Anita rolls her eyes. ANITA Fine. Neat then. The Bartender pours. ANITA And I need to see your boss. The Bartender shakes his head. BARTENDER Nah, I've got you. Show me. As long as it's Pencil Pete, I'll make sure you get what's yours. ANITA Who? ANITA (cont) (beat) Oh you mean Chas. Anita opens the bag, revealing the vampire's skull. The Bartender reaches in and picks up the skull. He turns it to look at the back. He points to a prominent circle that has been drilled out of it. BARTENDER Yep, that's Pete. He had to be trepanned a while back, right at that spot. He points to a hole in the skull. ANITA Why'd you call him Pencil Pete? BARTENDER Cuz o' how skinny he was. ANITA Cool. It's him. My money. Anita holds out her hand. The Bartender smirks again. BARTENDER Never said money. He grins, showing off his pointed canines. Anita's head turns, noticing the silence in the tavern. A sea of grins, elongated canines gleaming in the lanternlight, stares back. Anita also grins. ANITA Yeah, I caught the wording. Had my suspicions. Glad I was right. BARTENDER Lady you're surrounded by about oh, twenty or thirty vampires. ANITA Yeah. (beat) You should've made more. The Bartender's smile drops, and so does his head. Off of his neck and onto the bar. His body and head burst into flame. Anita turns to the crowd, her outstretched hand holding a Bowie knife with a purple glowing edge. ANITA Anyone else wanna give me head? She adopts a defensive stance, drawing a pistol with her free hand. A standoff ensues. Finally one MAN, a short, balding ginger who looks like his family tree is an irradiated wreath, breaks it, running forward. MAN I'll kill you bitch! Anita's gun speaks once, and the bullet enters the Man's chest. He drops, screaming. His chest bursts open in a spray of blood and melts from the inside out. He stops screaming. Then all hell breaks loose and Anita is rushed.

CHAS Do I look like an epidermicologist? ANITA You mean epidemiologist? The top of Chas' head sizzles as the light touches it, and he screams, but ducks as much as he can. CHAS I don't fuckin know! Just get me out of the sun, lady! Aren't you infected, too? Anita shrugs. ANITA Guess we'll die together, Chas. CHAS MY NAME ISN'T - The sun hits his face and he bursts into flame. He screams. Then he stops. His bones clatter to the ground, freed. Anita reaches her hand into the sunlight to catch his skull and pulls down the gaiter. His elongated canines gleam in the sunlight. Anita smiles as the sun kisses her face, revealing her own set of fangs. She holds the skull aloft and examines it with yellow irises and pinprick pupils.

INT RANCH HAND HOUSE - DAY SUPER: 5 YEARS AGO Rick dresses for the day. He is a ranch hand on one of the wealthiest ranches on the planet. Once dressed, he steps outside. An older man rolls up in a Gator. This is THOMAS RORY (50s M, the ranch owner). THOMAS Mornin' Rick. RICK Good morning, sir. I was just about to start feeding livestock. THOMAS Let the others handle that. Hop in. I have a special mission for you today. Rick does as bidden. Thomas steps on the pedal and turns the Gator around. THOMAS (cont'd) Had a bit of a hostage situation yesterday over at the O'Bannons'. RICK Still ongoing? THOMAS No, It's sorted. Your counterpart over there, a Mr. Jonas Wickham, handled the situation. CUT TO: EXT O'BANNON HOUSE ROOFTOP - DAY JONAS WICKHAM (30s slender M, former sniper) looks through the scope of a rifle and takes aim at another man, REGGIE (40s ranch hand) who is holding a pistol to a YOUNG WOMAN'S (20s ranch girl) head. JONAS (into an earpiece) I've got him. On the ground, MILES O'BANNON (40s M - son of the ranch owner) hears Jonas through his own earpiece. MILES Now, Reg, you know you can't be harming these girls. Let her go. REGGIE Fuck you O'Bannon! You ain't in fucking charge. I take orders from your old man, not some whelp like you. Reggie cocks the pistol. Miles' face hardens. MILES (quietly) Jonas. CRACK! Of the rifle shot and Reggie's head becomes a fine, pink mist. The girl stumbles, her eyes wide. Miles walks up gently and takes her hand.
