Spokane passed a bunch of housing reforms recently—eliminating parking minimums, increasing height maximums, reducing lot minimums, allowing more missing middle, & expanding property tax exemptions for new multifamily projects—and now they're building record amounts of housing

A LOT of extremely online leftism comes from the exact same place as extremely online rightism: the internet propping up a permission structure for adherents to indulge in whatever makes them angry, which, wouldn't you know it, is often "Things were better in the good old days and we must retvrn"
it’s fascinating to see supposed “leftists” exhibit the exact same reactionary nostalgia as conservative boomers

(these trains are 50 years old and on their last legs, the new trains have slightly less seating so they can hold more people and have more wheelchair space)

the fact that cops and the military always top lists of institutions Americans trust the most should kinda disabuse you of this notion
You want to know why people don't trust institutions? It's not because they've been poisoned by bad information. It's because they've watched these same institutions repeatedly fail while claiming infallibility.

it's not that I don't think that grey areas exist on social issues, it's that I don't see the point in engaging with on them with right-wingers, because their actual intent, regardless of what they say, is clearly just being an asshole to some group of people they consider subhuman
Honestly, gender politics aside, I feel bad for the kids who are the only trans person in like 90 miles because it’s got to feel like a personal “fuck you in particular” type thing.

One of the weirder parts of the election post-mortem media has been the shared assumption—held by seemingly everyone issuing prescriptions to the Democrats—that the electorate is engaged with reality, and that everyone’s reality is the same.

Corruption through the roof
SO, basically found out the reason why Freightwaves (major trucking industry publication) is putting out so many pro-tariff pieces this week is because the CEO is shamelessly campaigning to be appointed Secretary of Transportation.
