A compelling case for the responsibility not to relinquish one's responsibility. How to do it humbly and when is not clear to me.
It's hard to love our neighbors, and especially when they act like our enemies.
But I like this call to do so and want to think more about it.
A new essay, in which I engage with a key idea from my friend and colleague David Dark. We have a responsibility not to relinquish our responsibility. I’d love to hear what you think, & if you enjoy this, please share. Thank you!

We might imagine that systems can think. We must remember they cannot.

Almost like there’s a reason that 8 were “surveilled” rather than 40.
I managed to conceive of a reason Jack Smith might want call logs for GOP senators that isn't rooted in Joe Biden "weaponizing" the government.

This is a great piece at the beginning, with reflections on marriage, and the end, with the referral to Ryan Davis.

I appreciate it, Tommy.

Tripped up because I guess Tommy Helms never got in at first base?
But the number of Reds catchers with 100 rbi is probably pretty small, so I wouldn't have stayed under 10 anyway.

That's really interesting. I can't argue with it.

I think though that the source for some generally-accepted thoughts that are not true might be difficult to identify.

And the one who once told me this might just be repeating it with an entirely different set of motivations and assumptions.
and there's an interesting corollary here that we ignore, I think, at our peril. the world lacks collective will, it can't try to roll me. only something with a Self can do that. so we have to ask, when somebody once told me this, what were their motivations, where did their assumptions come from
Jordan Peterson voice: well to begin with it's a contradiction in terms, or perhaps a paradox, I'll return to that. but the membrane itself has no consciousness, you see. so it can't prima facie be "insane." and moreover we have to understand that there's more than one membrane, really quite a few

Hey @ramzy.bsky.social do you know if Jeremiah Smith is allowed to be thrown to against Michigan? It seems like that could be, possibly, a good idea next year.

When Jim Banner recruited me for the updated Presidential Misconduct collection, I was busy finishing Fault Lines and joked that I could only handle a light load, so I’d do Carter.

But I found he was, if anything, *too* ethical, bending over backward to be transparent. Seems a world away from us.
