To paraphrase Terry Hall, I draw because it feels like it is the only thing I can do. Some of my prints are now available through the very cool and very lovely @finelittleday

“The fact is that the problems Adorno identified over fifty years ago are not only discernible today but, in a perverse dialectic, are transported into the present by an official politics of history that purports to represent the lessons he taught: ‘never again Auschwitz.’”

An essay I’ve written that reflects on Adorno‘s famous „Education after Auschwitz“ today, esp for Germans. blnreview.de/en/ausgaben/...

On this day in 1930, after petitioning the Secretary of State for Scotland for assistance to help them leave the island, the remaining 36 inhabitants of Hirta (St Kilda) departed on board HMS ‘Harebell’

Yes it’s that lilt and rhythm. There’s a whole cultural thing built around it and it’s always women and in so many of the recordings the songs just descend into whoops and peels of laughter. This is a good one too although unfortunately it’s been ruined by colourisation youtu.be/bOIZC16Jtz8?...

A comic-style illustration shows a woman with a bun, earrings, and a serious expression pointing. Speech bubbles express criticism of Zionists. The tone is candid. A person sits on a couch, lacing shoes, expressing confusion about historical misuse of the Holocaust. Warm tones, thoughtful atmosphere. A woman with a bun hairstyle stands by a door, holding a key. Speech bubbles express themes of oppression, inspiration, and heartbreak for Palestine. The tone is contemplative. Three people with diverse appearances holding signs and raising fists, shouting "Viva Viva Palestina" in a speech bubble. The tone is supportive and empowering.

Ah lovely and yes you’re right, there’s something so powerful about that process and songs like that being treasured and passed on. There was always a lovely sense of that from the liner notes on Dick’s records.

Beautiful, I think another musical rabbit hole awaits. Dick Gaughan was my introduction to this song years back, always loved it
