This morning I spent time cleaning out a lot of junk in our basement, and breaking down boxes for recycling. It was boring and dirty, but future me (especially after Christmas me!) will be glad I did it.

Per @garretthaake.bsky.social, the extremely tacky "presidential wall of fame" that lines the colonnade to the West Wing now has obviously-Trump-penned plaques insulting or praising the presidents.

Why in the name of anyone would they care? I've had lots of neighbors who didn't speak English, or speak it well. It was never a problem. Having said that.l. if I lived next to JD Vance, well ...

When I was growing up, there were many times that we relied on food stamps. Not because my parents were lazy - they both worked full-time,but they just didn't get paid well. Relying on government help does not make you a bad person.

I live in a big city (Philadelphia). There are so many people I come across every single day who do not speak English - either at all, or as their chosen language. Does that bother me? No. What bothers me is that I live in a country where speaking something other than English is suspect.

You know,before, even when the country did something stupid, racist, unfair, etc. I could still find something that made me think being an American was good. Now I don't want anyone to know.
