David Byrne’s music has grown increasingly earnest over the years, but it is still almost always about alienation. Conversely, it is also about searching for home—how to find synchronicity, peace, wholeness. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/3M5_x5
David Byrne’s Career of Earnest Alienation
At seventy-three, the former front man of Talking Heads is still asking questions about what it means to be alive. But now he’s also offering ideas of hopefulness and service.

Solidarity to everyone who marched to Novi Sad. Much love to the families and friends of those who passed away in the Novi Sad rail station disaster.
NEW: Extraordinary scenes in the Serbian city of Novi Sad right now.

Hundreds of thousands of students have marched for days across Serbia.

A huge protest against Vučić’s government as they commemorate the anniversary of the Novi Sad rail station disaster, a year ago today.

“We’re in a bad situation, but it’s not just the shittiness of Trump. It’s the passivity of the Democratic Party to stick with a status quo that most people felt was not working.” Jon Stewart talks with David Remnick.
Will Paramount Cancel Jon Stewart?
The “Daily Show” host talks with David Remnick about his contract with Paramount Skydance, the government’s attack on political satire, and how our institutions got so weak.

Was surprised to learn on Waatea News recently that the deputy PM doesn’t think politicians should change election rules without a public vote, and am expecting that Act will withdraw its support for restrictions on voter registration any day now thespinoff.co.nz/politics/01-...

Any Aucklander who wants change cannot rest on their laurels. It might be tricky to pick from the contenders but voting in the local body elections is better than not voting at all.

We want both states to have peace and security… well apart from the one state which we today confirmed we are not sure when we want to or if we want to recognise.

But both states… I mean this is incoherent.

Worth expressly noting that the ONLY reason given in Peters' speech for why AoNZ should recognise Israel and not Palestine as a state is that Palestine "does not control its own territory". So, we reward Israel for its illegal actions + will keep doing so until it chooses to stop.

But it turns out it's just OLD money from the 2025 budget & already allocated. Brown strikes again #nzpol #Kiwi

AOC: All in the name of Charlie Kirk, Trump and the FCC are now cynically threatening to shut down ABC and any outlets who give air time to the administration's political critics.

This is a disgusting attack on the American people and the very first amendment rights that define us as a country.
