Had a fabulous day with Jake making the cranberry stuff and the first batch of stuffing. Tomorrow we fine tune the stuffing recipe and make a ton of potatoes. Meanwhile, his 1st Santa Suit sock is done and the 2nd is started. Hope you all had a good day. #NightlyProgressReport

Turns out I need 55 rows after the gusset decreases with this yarn and this needle for Jake’s 11” long foot (size 13). Here’s what my shorthand for these looks like and here’s the sock. I’m on the toe but it’s time to go make the cranberry stuff. #Knitting #Socks 🧶

For socks, swatches, and other smallish things, I prefer to measure with a ruler rather than a tape measure. One day, when wording was hard, my mouth smooshed blue and ruler together and Ferris Blueler was named. I’ve got ~2” to go until I can start the toe. #NightlyProgressReport #Knitting 🧶

I’m enjoying the Emma’s Yarn so much that I revisited the yarns we picked up on that trip. Since I think I’m going to use Carter’s navy for Jake’s toes, I think I’ll make Carter’s socks after these. The purple on the far rt next to the navy is his. Phaja’s 2 colors are next to that.

An ankle sock in progress. The best bits are done and the gusset decreases start tomorrow. The yarn is a tonal of red and burgundy. It’s 80/20 SW/silk from Four Purls.

Oooooh, I like! Jake likes ankle socks without any fuss so even though I dropped down to a 2.0 mm, these should go quickly and there’s just enough color variation to keep my brain engaged.

Left Lemon and Red Christmas in the bedroom when I went to work because I had 3 ridges to do on the shawl. But those flew so I pulled out the 1st Healing Hands sock and got rows in on that too. Finished the gusset decreases on Lemon & am almost at the heel of RC. #NightlyProgressReport #Knitting 🧶

View of the right side of my bed from the bench at the foot of it. Prince, our brown tabby, is on a super soft folded throw on the bench. He’s picked his head up to ask me why I’m taking his pic. Behind him, in a grey cat bed, is Jazz, our tortie, all curled and attempting sleep. She’ll be happier once I go to bed. And behind Jazz, in a matching grey pet bed, and where I can constantly pet her, is Zulu, our giant orange floofy girl, waiting for me to come to bed. I managed to capture Zulu’s spa (cool mist humidifier) that I need but she thinks is strictly for her. Jake refills it “for her” every night. She’ll start yelling if he waits to long to do this. But when he turns it back on she sits facing it with her head tipped up, eyes closed, and smiles.

I had a weekend of very little knitting. Still got stitches in but they’re what I would normally do in just a few hours. I’ve been listening to Nora Robert’s Lost Bride trilogy and playing mindless games on my phone while I rest my thumb instead. #NightlyProgressReport #Knitting 🧶
I’m 35 rows into the leg of the 2nd red holiday sock so 15 rows to go until the best bits. It’s a red sock with cream and green accents. The yarns are Dahlia and Mojito both from The Copper Sheep. My first helical sock is going slower than I’m used to due to its a new process. It’s easy and kinda rhythmical but I tend to blow right past the changeover and end up tinking regularly so I’m a little frustrated. But I’ll get there. The yarns are Lemon Drop and Solar Eclipse both by Evergreen Yarn Studio.

Here’s what this year’s looked like in October. This year is the first time I’ve done this. I’ve learned a lot and made some changes. It’s fun letting nature dictate the color and lace placement within a set framework.

Today ended up being a fairly productive knitting day. Did 2 ridges on the shawl so that’s caught up, cast on the last CS holiday sock and on the leg, and did a few rows on the lemon. I feel like I need to make sure I do that while still learning this technique. #NightlyProgressReport #Knitting 🧶

Was casting on the last #CopperSheep holiday sock and due to system issues at work had time to get some pics to walk anyone interested through how I start to work in the round on one long circular needle. #Knitting #Socks 🧶
Clockwise from top left: 1. I’ve cast on 61 stitches via the long tail cast on. The sock will have 60 stitches. 2. Count back half the number of stitches for the sock (30) from the end of your cast on. 3. Keep your place and slide the stitches back onto the cable. 4. So that you can pinch the cable at that spot and pull out a loop. Clockwise from top left: 5. Continue to pull that loop out, moving the stitches back onto both needles. 6. Once the stitches are on both needles, align them so there are no twists. Both your tail and working yarn are hanging down at the front of the needle points. 7. Lift the working yarn so that it comes up between the needles and hangs over the back (you want this captured within the closed loop of stitches you’re about to make). 8. Use whatever you have handy (here it’s a darning needle but other knitting needles, an opened panel, a fishhook earring, pretty much anything you can lift a stitch with will do) to go into the FIRST stitch cast on. Clockwise from top left: 9. Using that thing you’ve lifted that first stitch with, move it from the front needle to the back needle. Now it’s sitting in front of the last stitch you cast on. 10. Using that same implement, go into the last stitch you cast on and start to loosen it. 11. At this point I use my fingers to open that stitch wide and then drop it over the first stitch and off the needle. 12. Using both the working yarn and the tail, snug up your yarn. At this point I trim my tail down to about 4”. To start knitting you’ll pull that back needle out and bring it around to work the stitches in front. Bonus photo bomb by Mr. Fancy Feet AKA Leo.

Since Lemon Drop is a Whirligig (helical knitting so I’m using both skeins all the time on the leg and foot), I decided that she gets to reside in the Whiskey bag. I can’t begin to describe how much joy I get opening this bag and seeing her there. Best birthday present to myself ever (the bag).
Whiskey colored leather knitting bag where the zipper opens along one side of the top and then diagonally across each end so it opens into two triangles. It’s by Muud and I got it from The Orry Mill in Scotland. In the front half of the bag are the center pull balls of Lemon Drop and Solar Eclipse (red, orange, white, pink, and yellow). The sock in progress is propped up on the center divider of the bag.
