We bring the exciting world of D&D to life! We run online games for children aged 8+, and specialise in working with young people with additional needs (but everyone is welcome!).

With that said, if you're a creator and you are funding a zine which is aimed at (or at least suitable for) children and young people, please comment with a link to your project so that we can shout it out!

Creators can really let their imaginations run wild, and every year I prepare myself to spend lots of money on zines! In past years I have backed games where you play as three goblins in a trench coat, or where you explore a castle so huge that entire continents and biomes exist within its walls!

Society - This covers a lot. From systems of rule, to the way in which people organise their settlements. You can really add detail here, what kind of foods do people eat? What are their holidays and festivals like? Their clothes? Let your creativity run wild!

Religion - In most fantasy settings, especially for D&D, religions play a very important role as the gods are very much active in shaping the world and giving people magic. But perhaps you want to explore something different, what would a world with no gods look like? How would society shape itself?

Magic - In fantasy worlds the shape that magic takes, and the rules that govern the way that it works, are as fundamentally important as the rules of physics, like gravity.

History - Unless your world is deliberately newly created, there are potentially thousands of years of history for you to play with! But maybe it's best to just stick to a few key events such as rulers, wars, empires, extreme natural disasters and the likes.

Geography - What does your world actually look like in terms of land, oceans, mountains and more? How does this affect the climate & weather? And most importantly how does all of that shape the culture(s)?

For adults: Everything, Everywhere All At Once
One of the directors of the film discovered that he had ADHD as a result of making this film, although ADHD is not explicitly mentioned in the film itself.

What other portrayals of ADHD in TV and film do you find relatable?

For adults: Julie & Julia
Whilst ADHD is not explicitly stated, lots of people relate to Julie Powell who displays many ADHD characteristics.

For teenagers: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
The main character Percy has ADHD and dyslexia, and the story reflects how he is able to use his ADHD traits to overcome challenges which the author intended to inspire young people.

For young kids: Paris and Pups
I didn't expect to find good ADHD rep in a show based on Paris Hilton & her pets... But actually it features multiple characters with ADHD and was created alongside understood.org who also provide an accompanying free guide for parents on talking to kids about ADHD!
Understood - For learning and thinking differences
Understood.org is the leading nonprofit empowering the 70 million people with learning and thinking differences in the United States.

What other tactics do you use as a player or a DM as an alternative to combat?

Or if they don't want to fight a creature they will do absolutely everything in their power to tame it and make it into their new pet... Their big, terrifying, predator of a creature pet... And when they roll a Natural 20 on their Animal Handling... Well I guess they have a pet Owlbear now! Sigh.

If players don't want to fight a monster maybe they could try sneaking past it? If they don't want to fight a bandit maybe they could try talking to them and persuade, intimidate or deceive them into not fighting?

Combat is a part of D&D, that's why there's all the rules around how to do it! But it doesn't have to happen all the time!

As a Dungeon Master it's really important to listen to what players want to do, and sometimes even to remind them that there are other options than going in all spells blazing!

Geek Girl by Holly Smale - About a 15 year old girl who becomes a model and has to deal with bullies and fame.

What other portrayals of autism in books shows do you rate? We would love to hear your recommendations!
