Some years ago my local council changed their approach regarding all the little bits of grass verge around the city, and stopped weeding/cutting them within an inch of their lives. Now, they're seeded with wild flower seeds, so I can look at this while waiting for a bus.
A mix of wildflowers ranging from small red poppies through... yellow flowers, pale blue flowers, pale pink flowers and some weird furry frond things. Sorry, I don't really do green things. Ask me about Lego instead.

For today's #Lego sets, I give you... two sets from 1999 that were given away in McDonalds. I found these in the same job lot as the little aircraft I posted about a couple of weeks ago. These sets are named... Quatro Leg and Bad Monkey. I kid you not.

It's wearing a 2x4 red brick with wheel spokes at each end combined with an old Lego blue flower as a hat. A photograph of Lego set 2757-1 - Bad Monkey, which was given away free with Happy Meals in McDonalds in 1999. The set is based around a 2x6x3 red brick with a large printed monkey's face on it. Using a mix of 2x bricks in black to create a simple body and hair, the figure uses two 2x3 curved green bricks for feat, and has a double-curved 2x4x2 red brick with printed bug antennae on it as hair.

Today's #Lego set is a Lego Dreamzzz set. Dreamzzz is another Lego original theme and was invented as a direct personal attack on me and my wallet. When the first sets in this theme came out, the Smyths toy chain had a make and take event where you could build 3 different promo sets.

The initial post is from a user named devious_egg and reads "Adults, what is something you'd love receiving as a gift but no one even considers giving you because you're an adult?" The response is from a user named CanYouBeHelped and reads "I got a call from a friend, she said it's a birthday and we should all come over. I got the date/time and event correct, but not whose birthday it was, although I was confident it was for a kid. Why else would she say, bring the whole family? We show up and I'm frankly concerned by all the craft beer with bows and balloons on it. I set our gift bag down and we join th eparty. Shortly after, her husband shouts with joy and wants to know who got him the big Lego set. Well, that was me, and uh ... You're welcome. So, my answer is Legos. Adults want Legos."

Today's #Lego Friends set is a new one I picked up on a recent Insiders day, Surfing Dogs and Scooter Adventure. I like that the sets are clear that cats like baking and beds and adventure playgrounds, and dogs like water.

The scooter is made primarily of orange and lime pieces and is vaguely triangular, with two wheels under the main body and a single wheel at the end of a long yellow axle piece at the front. Rising up from the front of the main body is a transparent bar that serves as a mast for a white sail. I don't know about these beach-related things, I mostly bought it for the corgis! This was a fun little build though; the sail is four individual pieces (two of which need stickers applied to both sides) so can be a bit fiddly to move, but I think it looks pretty good, and you just know that Peaches enjoys the wind. A photo of the second part of Lego set 42641-1 - Surfing Dogs and Scooter Adventure, in which Paisley and Waffles the dark orange corgi are enjoying some picnic time on the beach next to a dark turquoise scooter with sidecar. The scooter has a lavender surfboard with stickers on it plus spare dog biscuits and a safety helmet on the back.

Today's #Lego Friends set is Leo's Room, although I think we can all agree that the real owner of the room is Churro the cat, who doesn't seem impressed with their automated fish on a string toy in the back left-hand corner of the set.

Today's #Lego Friends set is last year's Electric Car and Charger. You can tell I'm not a motorist from the way I had two options for connecting the car to the charging station and picked the wrong one. I like that the Friends theme has been steadily adding sets featuring renewables/green tech.

This mornings #Lego Friends set photo is actually a late night last night photo, because this set's too big to go in my tiny lightbox. I'm afraid that makes it a bit dark, but now you know what colour I painted the walls in my guest bedroom! This is the Heartlake Talent Show.
A somewhat dark photo of Lego Set 42616-1 - Heartlake City Music Talent Show. This uses a similar colour scheme to the Lego Friends "pop star" theme from a few years ago; the set is predominantly built from black and blue bricks, with some vibrant yellow, light aqua and coral highlighting. The set consists of three linked stages; a singer with a guitar is on the centre stage, while two side stages are at 45 degree angles to the main stage, with the one on the left having a musician standing in front of a keyboard, and the righthand stage has a musician standing in front of a drum kit. The top section of the stage is built primarily in coral, showing supports and large speaker dishes. Translucent dark pink antennae are set up in various points to represent laser beams. A camera stands on its own on one side, while Andrea sits in a small freestanding booth, looking towards the centre stage.

I keep losing track of days, but I was determined to post a #Lego photo today, so here's a set that's likely to live on one of my bookshelves forever. Mostly because the big bits of the bridge are too big to fit in any of the ziplock bags I store Lego in.

The Lego set consists of a yellow six-wheeled tractor truck and a six-wheeled yellow transport unit with a light bluish grey bridge connecting them, mounted on turntable pieces on the truck and transport units. A minifigure in blue construction clothes and a red safety had stnads under the bridge. Stickered pieces flag the tractor up as a special transport and the entire unit as a long vehicle. The bridge looks like a girder bridge built of an outline frame with triangular bracing, and is presumably being moved to where it's going to be installed. On the shelves visible behind the Lego set are some DVD box sets, some hardback books, and an action figure of Hudson, one of the Colonial Marines from the movie Aliens, who looks very scared despite not even being on the same shelf as the bridge.

Today's #Lego set is one that I found in my first ever bulk Lego buy, which was (allegedly) all Lego Friends bits. Spoiler: it's not. It's a gingerbread house! I was surprised when I finished logging all my bits on Rebrickable and this appeared as a build option, albeit missing a couple of tiles.

Apologies for the lack of #Lego pics last week, I was having an absolutely terrible week. To make up for it, here's one of my favourite little Lego Friends sets. This set was originally a September 2018 giveaway at branches of Toys'R'Us in Canada. I built mine from spare parts.

The tan bricks at the front are mosly blocked from view via lots of medium nougat tiles fixed to Studs Not On Top (SNOT) bricks. The clubhouse sits on a lime green plate. The a reddish brown small dog and a grey and white cat can be seen inside the lower level, looking away from the camera through a lowered reddish-brown bridge.

I was hoping to photograph another set in my lightbox this morning but it's turning into one of those days at work, so here's a quick photo of a #Lego set I built recently in it's native environment - on one of my bookshelves.
This is Lego Set 42615-1 - Pet Adoption Day, and is made up of a number of open air booths, each showcasing one of the pets up for adoption, arranged in a line. Behind the row of booths is a large bright light yellow entrance archway with balloons and a sign on it encouraging people to adopt pets, and at the left hand end of the row of booths is a small table with pet supplies on it, next to a coffee table with drinks for those who're visiting. Walking around in front of the booths are Paisley, who's pulling a small open-topped cart with one hand; Anthony, a punk with a green mohawk who's pushing a baby named Roy in a small pushchair; Ida, a very pale woman with long white hair; Iris, wearing a long turquoise dress, and two children, Alba and Ella. Each booth has a striped hanging at the top made from curved bricks in alternating colours and a sign giving information on the pet within it. From left to right the pets are: Harley, a dark orange poodle Hamlet, a baby pig Marshmallow, a baby hedgehog Jellybean, a guinea pig Bella, a white cat Behind the Lego set is an assortment of rather battered paperback Star Wars and Star Trek novels, and a bookmark that has a four-panel cartoon about a cat and books on it.

This section of the wikipedia article on the Lego Friends line fascinates me.
Lego conducted years of additional research about its customer base, which showed that 90% of Lego sets sold were aimed at boys. This meant that there was a huge untapped market of girls who were not using Lego. A Lego spokesman, Michael McNally reported, "Seeing that the play pattern was really skewing so heavily toward boys, we wanted to understand why. We embarked on four years of global research with 4,500 girls and their moms. Some of the things we heard were really surprising and challenging in ways that weren't really comfortable for us as a brand." The research showed that boys and girls play very differently and construct different worlds of play. McNally noted that, "The boys immediately grabbed the figures and the horses and the catapults and they started having a battle". By contrast the girls were more focused on the structure. "They all looked around inside the castle and they said, 'Well, there's nothing inside'. This idea of interior versus exterior in the orientation of how they would then play with what they built was really interesting. If you think about most of the Lego models that people consider to be meant for boys, there's not a whole lot going on in there. But [the girls had] this idea of, 'There's nothing inside to do.'" The Lego Friends line was developed to target the girl's market. The Lego Group conducted extensive ethnographic research, which aimed to identify girls' preferences. Mauricio Affonso, Friends model designer commented, "One of the main things was they couldn't really relate to the minifigure, it's too blocky. Boys tend to be a lot more about good versus evil, whereas girls really see themselves through the mini-doll. They wanted a greater level of detail, proportions and realism."

I posted yesterday about the most recently-released tiny #Lego Friends set I've picked up, so today I thought I'd show one of the earliest. This is Andrea's Bunny House, which was released as part of the 2nd wave of sets in June 2012.
