(and possibly brown bread), the news items themselves can bring back memories. Today's was from April 2nd 1980 and the main story was an outbreak of rioting in the St Pauls area of Bristol. Then an MP was admonished for calling Princess Margaret "a wayward woman" in the House. Oh my giddy aunt!

Sterry. Remember that? Sterilised milk. Came in those odd looking tall bottles that had a crown cork so you needed a bottle opener to get into it. My Nan used to get it delivered (horse drawn milk float). Disgusting stuff, especially in tea. By the way, horses aren't very good at drawing. It's hard

Hello, good evening, and what's the recipe today, Jim?

Scruffy approves this.

I read a piece on the BBC this morning about a bloke who had an original silver grey Aston Martin DB5, left it to rust and then spent 400 grand getting it restored. First, why do that? Secondly, why announce it to every car thief in the land?

How parky was it this morning? 34° (1.1 °C) parky.

It's okay to mention it now though, right?

Whenever I take a walk to the shops (under 10 minutes) I'm certain to see five or six of these with no-one in them. No passenger, no driver. I think they must use the roads in this part of town to circle around waiting for a fare. Next time I go I'll see if I can spot the same number plates.

Definitely...

I might even say a bit taters.

It's a bit parky out there this morning.

I didn't get where I am today without doing some smart things and some stupid things, without some good fortune and some bad fortune. But mostly I just got here, somehow.

Ow, that made my brane hert.

flat with a bloke who could play this, and more. It's a wonderful thing to be up close to something like that as I was when turning the pages for him.

Spag bol for Monday's tea, and Xmas beer #2, another old ale. The bottom of the can says 2024 but I don't remember buying any of those last year.

Thanksgiving at the end of November because it makes a clear distinction between 'not Christmas' and 'IT'S CHRIIIISTMAAAS!'. There needs to be a Noddy Holder emoji. If I was given the opportunity to live anyone's life other than my own, Noddy's would definitely be in the frame. Bloke's a legend.

That's allowed. You should have seen what I was wearing in the 80s. Full on Sean Connery.

"Bar and Grill". What wonderful words those are when put together in that order.

Why can't I bloody well type properly any more and why can't I remember to proof every post before I bloody well send it?

I'm 83 years old you know!

It's ecision time. With the cold weather that's imminent my plants will have to come in, so what am I going to do with that tall bugger? Chop it down and hope it comes back?

First, but by no means the last, festive beer of the season. It's described as an old ale. Very malty. Five malts apparently.
