Oh I'm well aware of the release date, having purchased the game myself. Point being, it's a damn shame Ubisoft is unwilling to take the same chances they used to just a decade ago. Also speaks to how bad the political discourse has gotten here in the states.

They already made a slavery era Assassins Creed game though. It was called Black Flag and it literally contains a dlc where one frees enslaved people. Damn shame this got canceled though.

MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

William Casby was born into slavery in 1857 and died at the age of 113 in 1970. He would've been old enough to remember the Emancipation Proclamation in real time and also could have attended Dr. King's 'I Have A Dream' speech. I can't imagine living long enough to have witnessed those two events.
