Let’s clear things up:

• Keith’s a proper Stapleford local who already serves on the Town Council.

• After a long career in IT he wants to spend more time helping his community on the Borough Council.

• He’s only stood for election once before — and that was for Stapleford.

That’s why we voted against the Council’s decision today. None of the options are perfect, but we want Broxtowe to have a seat at the table - not to be left shouting from the sidelines.

It’s about the bigger picture: making sure all the services you rely on - social care, education, roads and more - work better together, give you better value for money and put our communities in a strong place when opportunities for investment, funding and jobs come along.

We think that’s a mistake.

This debate is not just about the services Broxtowe Borough Council provides.

Those who give their time to serve as elected representatives should never face abuse.

We invite Broxtowe parties to comment below with #PoliciesNotPeople to show support for constructive, respectful political disagreement. Our residents deserve nothing less.

Whatever your perspective on LGR, we hope we can rely on all parties in Broxtowe to uphold respectful, measured language and tone in tonight’s debate and beyond, in-person and online. Our councillors make that commitment to all fellow elected members.

With an important debate taking place this evening on Local Government Reorganisation, we recognise that there are strong and differing views on the table.
