Just posted: From Web to Native: Building Apps with SvelteKit & Capacitor

A website is great, but sometimes you also want an app version. With CapacitorJS this can be done with one codebase.

How to do this using #SvelteKit as your framework: bryanhogan.com/blog/web-to-...

What I like to do currently is get example sentences for the words in my decks via AI. I made a ChatGPT project with many Korean resources attached and instructions to improve its output.

I’m very pleased with the examples I get.

How I'm learning Korean 🇰🇷

I've been using Anki more again. It’s great for memorisation but kinda dry. Also, a pure Anki grind doesn't really help with application, which is the most important part of effective language learning.

Built an app to learn Hiragana.

A gamified approach to that gradually introduces characters.

As I'm currently in Osaka I can use my own app well :) Hoping to make learning Japanese more fun.

Fixed the image of the code being cut off.

I tried the same and it worked much better. Used a prompt that a person without web / tech knowledge would use and the outcome is decent.

Building an app to learn Korean words faster.

Learning new words, in a more fun way that I actually stick with.

Taking what I love about Anki and building on-top of that, e.g. gamification aspects like Duolingo.

Obsidian or Notion?

Both are powerful, but fit into different needs.

#Obsidian is better if you value owning your data, offline functionality and deep customization. #Notion fits better if you need online collaboration, getting started quickly and its Database features.

4,000€. One-way. No return date. I’m betting on myself, traveling, learning, and building a digital business along the way.

How this looks in practice!

One of my favorite ChatGPT instructions / projects I use for learning and improving my Korean.

Often words are just combinations of other words or concepts. By understanding these building blocks, I can learn new words much faster and also better remember existing ones.

Redesigned the landing page for my DailySelfTrack app project today.

What do you think?

(How many times better is the new design compared to the old one? 👀) Built with @astro.build btw!

CSS related pages of my front-end guide so far include:
- Writing your CSS reset
- Using CSS variables
- Utility classes
- Styling markdown

All using plain #CSS.

Removed the gradient background and using a flat color instead. Fixed vertical alignment on the next / prev buttons. Could make the tags into buttons with the same style as the optional social media references.
Unsure what else could be done now.

Rebuilt the end-of-post section for my blog. Took much longer than I expected. Tried AI tools like Copilot and Claude Code, which are definitely helpful, but still decided to rewrite the HTML & CSS from scratch since anything generated was messy.

Any ideas on how to improve the design?

Funny contrast between post #1 and #2 on HackerNews today

Pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to run on Windows locally, no docker required. Could just install and run it, getting the API credentials took a bit but also not long.

Now I could send this to me by e-mail, Telegram message, add to a Notion database, further process, or do whatever.

Just got into #n8n and it's amazing how much one could do with it. (It allows you to create automations between different tools).

Just finished the example that takes a chat interface, ChatGPT and Google Calendar integration to tell you about upcoming events :) #ai

Happy to see my blog post included on Astro's monthly update! @astro.build

Using my favorite "note-taking" tool ( @obsidian.md ) with my favorite framework (Astro) is great and I can highly recommend this workflow 💯

Always wondering if it's even worth posting on #BlueSky. It's like a black hole for anything I put on here.

I don't want to stick to posting only one keyword either, but the algorithm isn't doing me any favors.

Slightly educational or "productivity" content does much better elsewhere for me.

Today's learnings using #Obsidian:

Bases are very useful:
- They can be used within a note
- It's possible to set a limit on how many results are shown
- Can display amount of backlinks using a formula, which is just file.backlinks.length
- Can sort based on amount of backlinks
