“It requires a healthy dose of intentional ignorance and loyalty to power to delete from memory the human consequences of instituting and sustaining strong regimes.” - Noam Chomsky, Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Glory

Seems particularly relevant in the current political season.

Peace isn’t just the absence of violence it’s building societies where people can thrive. peacerightsandpolitics.substack.com/p/what-is-pe...

The weight of the present—an all-consuming now—disconnects us from reflection, aspiration, and justice. As John Ashbery reminds us, this condition can be confronted. Reclaiming imagination and memory can help us resist its pull and restore meaning.

Remigration isn’t just a policy—it's a weapon of rhetorical violence. It cloaks forced deportations & denaturalization in sanitized language. Austria’s far-right leads, but this euphemism could spread globally if left unchallenged. #HumanRights

While resistance to harmful policies is necessary, it is imperative that the humanitarian community understands that their public rage, protest, and demands are intended outcomes of the decisions that have been made. They are political capital that produces an incredible return. #usaid

I think we underestimate the power of malignant self interest and emotionless, pragmatic indifference.

This observation by @juliegray.bsky.social is a powerful reminder that indifference can be just as destructive as hate.

I don't do New Years resolutions, but I have decided to embrace discomfort this year, in a variety of spaces. Publishing and interacting on platforms like this is one aspect of discomfort I am embracing.

How do you engage discomfort in your life?
