The same day that Frum submitted his pitch to the Atlantic to profile the Israeli ambassador, Frum also was forced to publicly apologize to the New York Times and Reuters for falsely accusing a Palestinian photographer of faking a series of photographs of bereaved Palestinians in Gaza.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

The Mahoning Drive-In is very near and dear to my heart and it’s an incredible honor to screen “A MOVIE: Obayashi’s Cinematic Life” alongside this iconic film.

Stay tuned for details on the official home video of the visual essay 👀

Some very exciting news: I made a 25 minute visual essay about director Nobuhiko Obayashi’s life and career with @bsoderberg.bsky.social and it’ll premiere this Sunday at the @mahoningdit.bsky.social’s upcoming screening of HOUSE!

Some days here you need less coffee than others! I saw an iconic wig bobbing through the afternoon browsers and thought, could it be…..not just a jacked up yowler and shredder, Buzz is a hardcore bibliophile! And nice enough to pose by the old ball, outdoing the fiercest wigs that have been there

this is wild: while Stephen Miller's guy was in Minnesota for his uncle's funeral, somebody was able to see his entire phone and take pictures of his Signal group chats talking about military deployments to Portland, and brought them to the Strib (gift link: www.startribune.com/trump-offici...)

It was supposed to be $36 million privately funded with 2 courts, and ended up costing $52 million with only 1 court and 16,000 square feet smaller with the state having to chip in to fill the funding gap.

And btw, UMD currently has a hiring freeze, and had to raise tuition to balance the budget.

This is probably funniest website to pull the ”gifted kid programs that over select for white and upper middle class“ bit on. Even in the NYC context, it would be better, for New Yorkers as a whole, to focus on smaller classrooms and better instruction. If your kid is gifted, assign them more work.

My wife is an elementary gifted ed specialist. The idea that gifted kids either don't exist or don't benefit from gifted education services is both wrong and harmful to those kids. Phasing out gifted programs is stupid. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/02/n...

You want to talk about displacing/disrupting residents. Baltimore City, with a population of ~600k was making arrests of < 100k people, almost entirely Black people, less than 30 years ago. The city seems intent on resurrecting some of those policies! Ok, I'm done therealnews.com/here-we-go-a...

He died in 2022 in his 80s, so he fits the profile of the strawman invented by this displacement claim. There's revanchist nostalgia and there's exceptions but broadly, even working class whites were not forced out of the city. Black people are STILL not welcome in a lot of these neighborhoods.
bsoderberg.bsky.social
One illustrative story: When my grandfather was dying (mesothelioma like many working class Baltimoreans) he went to Hopkins hospital near where he grew up. He could not conceive that a state of the art hospital was in his "bad" childhood neighborhood. Family had to convince him it was a good place!
bsoderberg.bsky.social
Where my grandparents grew up is "nicer"/"safer" than it was when they lived there! This is broadly true for most Baltimore whites. Big shift is that large swaths of Black Baltimore never got "better" because of this obsession with courting this mythical white person that'll "revitalize" the city.
bsoderberg.bsky.social
Put another way, Baltimore policies are so profoundly racist still and so embedded in the city's structures that 100 or so years later the broad segregation of the city remains the same. "Displacement" is my white steel worker grandfather leaving and some white NGO goober in a vest buying his home.
bsoderberg.bsky.social
This paired with waves of white flight (particularly bc of Beth Steel decline which really began in the 60s and RACISM) decreased overall pop. But for example, Baltimore neighborhoods that experienced "white" displacement (sorry) experienced it via what would broadly be framed as "gentrification."
bsoderberg.bsky.social
Many insane things about this (everyone read Dr. Brown's "Black Butterfly") but a note about Baltimore's shifting racial make-up: Primary "displacement" of whites in neighborhoods was by other wealthier whites. "White" areas of the city remain white because of racist policies that kept "others" out.
