This is one reason that my definition of extremism doesn't include hate for out-groups, only the belief that out-groups must be harmed. You don't have to waste time on motive. If they believe an out-group must be harmed for the in-group's success or survival, that's enough to make the call.

And if they try to say "it's not harming the slaves, it's helping them," the acid test is asking whether enslavement would also be good for the in-group. If the answer is "no," then there's no mystery to be solved here.

IMO, someone should compile a clear video of the critical moments of this interaction, viewed from multiple angles: Pretti was filming from afar, he was approached by agents, he helped a woman who was pushed to the ground, he was attacked in the face with pepper spray, and then he was shot.
