Having said all of this, we often go to the park at the foot of Ferry Street, where the Black Rock ferry took people back & forth across the Niagara River & border from ca. 1825-1950, gaze upon a civilized nation, and sing "O Canada."

Agreed, it's hard to admire America the nation RN. So I admire those who brought us Seneca Falls, Stonewall & Selma.
Fred Rogers, Eleanor Roosevelt, Frederick Douglass & so many artists, writers, and musicians. This messed-up place continues to produce some fundamentally decent human beings.
