I have been seeing flocks of Dark-eyed Juncos all around the area. A good sign that winter is here now. There was a boisterous flock in some beautiful tall grass at our local monastery. They are very adept at getting the seeds off the stalks.

A dark-eyed junco is on some tall grass and eating the seeds off the seed heads. There was a whole flock that most kept distant, but they were beautiful in that tall grass. A closer crop of the dark-eyed junco picking out grass seeds from the plucked seed shaft.
