the thing is i don't need 'i told you so's - if people are welcoming in regretful conservatives, what everybody else needs is a firm line of "you either drop the bigotry, or we toss you right back out."

but that never happens. there's no "you need to actually change", there's just babying.

i would think that after a blitzkrieg of "please god republicans vote for us" strategy, that itself was built on 30 years of the same strategy with greatly diminishing returns, should at least make people think "wait. there's just not enough of these guys now to matter, at all"

the "told you so" smugness tone from libs is entirely reserved for 1. people living in red states getting demolished by natural disasters and 2. anybody to their left criticizing dems. any conservative that expresses regret immediately gets treated like a celebrity, a shining idol
