We’ve issued a statement with @fphuk.bsky.social, @rsph.bsky.social ‬and Scottish Directors of Public Health, highlighting the urgent need to address child poverty in the UK.

It calls for an ambitious UK-wide strategy with prevention as a key focus 🔽

The UK currently has the worst paternity leave offer in Europe.

Our latest modelling showed that increasing statutory paternity leave to six weeks at 90 per cent of pay could boost the UK economy per year by £2.6bn in the near term. 📈

📢 Stigma around people in poverty, benefits and welfare is key to understanding why poverty is still deemed acceptable in a country as wealthy as the UK.

Read our recent report on stigma below: www.jrf.org.uk/stigma-power...
Poverty stigma: a glue that holds poverty in place
Poverty stigma exacerbates shamefully high rates of poverty in the UK. It can affect health as much as trying to survive on a low income. How do we combat it?

Well this is disturbing, if not expected.

Dangerous and sad move.

Over 80 staff are at risk of redundancy at the MRC / CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit @uofgsocsci.bsky.social

I worked there for 4+ years so know the value of the research being done that will have to stop. I’ve signed the petition. Please share.

Several mainstream public health experts are normalizing Trump's dangerous health picks in the media in naive hope that they can limit the damage by finding common ground. This is an example of obeying in advance. Rather than reducing harm, it legitimizes deadly policies and paves the way for worse.

There's a huge tension building within public health over collaboration: can we work with the Trump Administration, at whatever few points of overlap in mission exist, to make people healthier? What this misses is the visibility and transparency of that play to the public, and its impact on trust

I cried on the first day of nursery and questioned my life choices 😅

Hope it’s a lovely day for her.

Doing a review relating to #COVID and early years.

The amount of pandemic papers published in predatory journals (👀) is wild. Presumably a quick publication turnaround

We really were in a rush to publish a ‘COVID paper’ at the expense of good science weren’t we?*

Do you know any young people aged 12-16 years who would like to take part in research? We are running an online study at UCL looking at how young people think and behave, and would like them to take part. 1/2
