The most insidious thing about patriarchal and white supremacist ideology is that it flourishes in white communities because of a blatant refusal to acknowledge and repudiate it. It’s the casual acceptance of bigotry in friends, co-workers, and family that has led us to this horrifying place.

I’m still amazed that some people blame the left for the losses of the Democratic Party. It’s the job of the candidate and party to appeal to voters. It’s not the job of voters to vote for things they don’t support just because they are told to.

The most pervasive delusion I see is that the United States is a force for good in the world, that the values it holds sacred should be exported and emulated. Societies should revolve around care, reciprocity, peace, and collective accomplishment - not around individual greed and global war.

I have to always step back and remember that we live in an age of information warfare. The Western propaganda is just the same as all the rest. The actual situation is hidden behind a smoke screen of disinformation and distracting entertainments.

I find it more and more difficult to distract myself. The light of these devices wears me down. The constant need to separate truth from the deluge of propaganda that fills our lives is utterly exhausting.

It’s still bizarre to me people continue on as if everything were normal with the climate situation as startlingly grim as it is. Things that weren’t modeled as happening until 2050 are already here. But still no action. . .

There is a certain sadness that comes with sliding into late middle age and realizing that my participation in the coming conflicts will be limited by access to medication and the ticking clock.

I learned from a deep reading of Western history that the time period you live in is no excuse. There are always people with a clear sense of right and wrong. Ideas of Justice and equality flower in all times and places.

How dare anyone complain about immigration when I can’t get a decent taco within 100 miles of where I live! There are no regional Chinese restaurants! What if I want Szechuan cuisine? Not to mention the culinary delights of the rest of the world. Let people in. Tell them to bring recipes!
