Oct. 8, 1775: A letter from Alexander Cameron, a loyalist Indian agent to the Cherokee, to Gov. Lord William Campbell is intercepted by South Carolina patriots. The note relates that Cameron has succeeded in recruiting about 600 Cherokees in the service of the king.
