A handmade leather collar. It has a medium brown base strap with tooled scrollwork across the entire body and a feather on one side. The scrollwork is painted white and turquoise, and the feather is metallic silver. The top straps of the collar are dark brown with silver colored hardware. It's lined with super soft white rabbit fur and stitched together with white thread.

The 90s weren't better. Healthcare was worse, racism was MUCH worse, gay rights were nonexistent, trans folks had to REALLY hide, no one knew jack shit about mental health. And the further back you go, you get segregation, slavery, sodomy laws, shockingly high childhood mortality rates...

I only miss the 90s/00s because that's when I had no awareness of the world or responsibilities. The world was objectively *worse* then from a human rights and suffering pov, and the farther back in time you go, the worse it gets. But it's so hard to keep that perspective day to day 😩 esp w the news

I know this is not really the conversation most folks are having about AI right now, and rights for a currently non-existent lifeform is hardly a pressing issue with *handwaves at everything* all THAT is going on, but psych and philosophy is my background, so that's where my mind goes, I guess

And to be clear, I don't think we're close to actually having sentient AI yet, but man. Humans are awful to other humans that look different or live differently, how are we going to be when specism becomes a civil rights concern? We already have a slur for AI, it's not looking great!

I have weird, mixed feelings about AI itself (as opposed to the whole industry around AI), because I think the goal these tech billionaires have is to basically create slaves. They want thinking, reasoning, *sentient* beings they can control completely, that have no rights or autonomy.
