It’s always a pleasure to revisit The Fellowship of the Ring. 25 years have passed and it’s still a breathtaking experience, one that defies description. This was the moment I fell in love with the movies, that I realised how special they could be:

My Letterboxd stats for 2025. Not life changing for anyone but I pleased with the final score. Target for 2026- more non-English films, more cinema trips and more female led movies.

My first film of 2025 was The Lion King. For 2026, I’ve chosen another Disney classic to kick off the year.

And I’ll say this about Beauty and the Beast. I, as a 31-year-old single man, found even my stony heart melted, thinking of a future where I show it to my eventual daughter:

Can’t say I’ll fondly remember 2025. A year full of unease, anxiety and chaos, both personally and in the world at large. My only resolution for 2026 is to find the small positives when things start to get tough.

The extended edition of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies changes the rating to a ‘15’. It isn’t able to avoid the competition of biggest bellend between Thorin, Thranduil and Alfrid. At least it’s The Fellowship of the Ring next:

Remember when Pixar were something truly special and the films it made were transcendent for all? In its 30th year, it’s a shame the movie they made to celebrate it is Elio, one of their least impressive efforts. Doesn’t fill me with confidence for Toy Story 5!

I love F1 and I love movies, so F1 the Movie could have been tailor made for me.

There are times this film is absolutely edge of the seat thrilling, but the central concept of a 60 year old F1 driver and crippling inaccuracies derail its desire for authenticity:

I’ve finally finished my rewatch of the Star Wars saga. 12 films done and dusted.

The Rise of Skywalker is arguably the worst of the bunch, so badly written it makes Attack of the Clones look like Shakespeare. I remember nearly walking out when I first saw this in 2019:

For Christmas Eve, I decided to spend the evening on the Timor Sea, watching a bunch of Australian soldiers battle a great white shark against the backdrop of WWII. Beast of War is brutal and gnarly, proper B-movie fun:

Christmas is almost upon us and if you find yourself wishing for a guardian angel, maybe it’ll turn out to be Cary Grant. In The Bishop’s Wife, he gives maybe his most irresistible performance in a Christmas fable well worth a look:

Samuel L Jackson is almost 77, but I’ve never thought of him as old- until now. With a hoarse whisper and a distinctly slower demeanour, his performance in Afterburn is pretty much the main talking point of one of 2025’s most forgettable movies:
