Producer - director - writer of short films. 8/10 writer (top 2%) over at the blacklist. Sometimes an actor. I make films about well intentioned people making mistakes. I produce films about broken people trying to fix themselves.
Yes, it's the old Hollywood joke of we love your script and then the studio hires two other guys to rewrite you. But it was pretty shocking to see the actual pros openly planning for that eventuality.

His work on The Specialist and Indecent Proposal is terrific. The man always gave 100% even when the films didn't.

Blew it all on the Woolworthes pick and mix aisle.

It's the same in the UK. The networks want the same kind of show (can it be crime?). They'll pass on the fresh ideas (but later claim that's what they want). They turn to the same few stars who haven't yet landed a streaming show. And it's all written by the same handful of people (45-65, white).

And there's no easy fix. You had 600 scripted shows in 2022. But then 516 in '23. As the streaming/peak TV boom has now ended, the shows will keep decreasing. I'm guessing it'll settle around the 2015/16 mark of 420-460 shows on the air. But that's a lot of writers, a lot of crews, out of work.

So I can understand the frustration when the writer of Netflix's 2nd most watched movie of '24 tells you to just keep writing specs.

Also applies to supporting roles too. Everyone is pretty and generic and boring. Gone are the days of George Dzundza, Wayne Knight, Jim Belushi, Tom Arnold as the sidekick/partner. Hauser seems to be the exception these days.

Ground breaking CGI too -- with the Borg Queen coming down from the ceiling and clipping into her suit. Incredible work achieved in just a few months!

And the catch 22 of them asking "Is there financing in place?"
