West end of Algoma; trains come here. Listen to Dire Straits. I work in the front row of the garden of small potatoes concert production for artists like Fred Eaglesmith. I write random haikus that make Vogon poetry look good. Currently driving.

My friend Ab once went south during winter to Arizona. No snow, hot weather. When he returned with a giant smile, he said: "You see me on the streets here in Canada next winter you have my permission to shoot me". I guess he is in the second camp. If he hasn't been dispatched by his friends.
people who live through Canadian winters are either "the cold makes me feel alive" people or "the cold makes me want to die" people and that first category is absolutely not to be trusted imo

So maybe, just maybe, he's completely off his rocker, but look. He is a recipient of a Nobel prize.

It's bizarre that some politicians are trying to behave as if the US president were sane, or capable of reason or moral judgement.

Before Valentine's
I dream of you lying there
Wearing buttoned clothes

Kneeling at bedside
I will find new ways, slowly
To become your one

It may take some time
Imagination, kisses
So lie there a while

Maybe some music
Laura Smith, on her body
You are a beauty

Greetings from Kyiv.

Today, I walked to the Dnipro River (still frozen).
Even with little heat and electricity, Ukrainians still find joy in life.

Jan. 16, 2026 7 a.m. arrival of a two car train at White River, Ontario. This line runs Budd cars with more passengers, like fishing parties for lodges and canoeists, in summer. On this morning I was the only passenger leaving White River. It is an easier trip than driving northern highways.

These are the sad faces of small dogs who recognize their real owners are at some evening event and all that is left is some visiting no-treat vagabond who doesn't understand rules about sharing. From left, Butters (youngest, male), Lola (oldest, female), Rudy (dominant male).

There is a long train ride between Sudbury and White River and yesterday it was comfortable and quiet enough to read the first chapter of a new book by John Fugelsang, a good writer. Acknowledged his parents & family in the first chapter, and admitted he went into comedy to economize on therapy.

Picked out a vintage Sears housecoat in a green plaid pattern and the clerk at the cash register confirmed it is indeed a purple one. These things are challenges to wannabe colour experts like myself.

Trump will be given the f bomb prize for using the f bomb more than any other US President. He will next be given a Swiss orange bronze Olympic medal for using more Swiss orange bronzer than any other golf cart driving athlete over the age of 78. The Village People Stupid Dancing prize is pending.

Thank you Maria. We will deport you anywhere you wish tomorrow.
Anyone with a shred of class and decency would have politely refused it, so naturally Trump took it.

A "paid agitator" is an individual who is compensated—financially or otherwise—to incite, provoke, or intensify unrest, protest, or dissent within a group, community, or movement.

Or you can just call them "ICE"

Yet somehow, Ukraine is the problem.

The minute the U.S. steps on Greenland to invade.

The majority of U.S. debt will be dumped.

What would that mean.

The United States would be well and truly fucked.

Their economy would implode.
