Oligarchy (noun):

A government of and by a few at the top, who exercise power for their own benefit. Their power and wealth increase as they make laws that favor themselves, manipulate financial markets, and create monopolies that put more wealth into their pockets.

Thank you to all the performers who are canceling their events at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

I really hope today isn’t Travis Kelce’s last game at Arrowhead stadium. I know he has a lot going for him off the field, but he deserves a better send off than this.

Ticky-tack OPI call makes me agree with Tony Romo and I’m not happy about it.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get on socials and see NFL hype or whatever INSTEAD of another school/church shooting? To be clear, I’m not criticizing media. I’m mourning the death and injury children are suffering and I’m empathizing with the fear others feel starting the school year.

Good to see @us.theguardian.com doing the reporting the @nytimes.com is still too cowardly to do. Freedom requires the conscious, deliberate involvement of the press. Turning a blind eye is equivocation.
California senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from a press conference held by homeland security secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles on Thursday.

In video of the incident, Padilla is being restrained and removed from the room by multiple men.

If you’re feeling alone or too small in the fight against fascism, I get it. But check out @indivisible.org and you’ll see you aren’t alone at all.

When and why did American truck drivers become obsessed with tonneau covers?

Just want to take a moment to say Mark Alford is a coward who serves himself and bows to the Musk-Trump presidency. He doesn’t understand how government works— if he did, he wouldn’t support the policies he touts in public. More idiocy.

This message from AOC needs to be heard and she delivers it best. Her leadership brings me a glimmer of hope. We should learn, too, from Jamie Raskin’s example: never underestimate the power of simply saying “I yield the gentlelady an additional 30-seconds.”

It's insulting that news outlets don't respect our intelligence enough to call Musk's salute what it is. Like it or not, major news outlets are important to democracy and we need them to do their job without cowardice.

I've been trying to microdose my usual podcast intake instead of binging playoff football and dystopia all at once. My trigger to pause a pod for a while is any mention of sports betting or a mattress ad. Honestly, it has made me discover so much good music lately. THEN I can finish the pod.

It feels like there should be a much bigger discussion about abandoning Meta’s products. Maybe it’s out there and I’m just not seeing it—but the landscape of mainstream social media (can I call it that?) is concerning.

I’ve been running public social media as a teacher and haven’t had my own account in almost a decade. I’m excited to get to engage with *my* interests again, and so far folks like @hankgreen.bsky.social and @minakimes.bsky.social make me think this is the place for it.
