The first 3 sweeps to learn for #Bjj IMO are:
1) Bridge and roll under mount
2) Flower sweep (hip bump is overrated)
3) Scissor sweep

What do you think?

Getting stuffed whenever you do a #wrestling shot in #BJJ matches? Try keeping your back at ~60-45 degrees (to avoid sprawls). Instead, only think about spinning to the back once you make contact - there you can stand up behind them or keep driving them sideways where sprawls are weaker.

Common games for different body types: If you're a tall #bjj player, focus on extending your opponents and playing outside guards/passes. If you're short, focus on compressing yourself and winning inside position for stronger guards/passes.
March 3, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Finding it hard to move in side control? Find a way to get your head free (like I mentioned yesterday) and you'll increase your mobility significantly! Eg., frame the hips to relieve pressure, then get back inside the crossface arm. THEN you can bring your legs back inside.

Finding yourself getting crushed whenever you hip escape? You're probably not framing to keep your head and shoulders safe while you do it. Focus on keeping your head free and the hips will have a chance.

John Danaher has spoken about the idea of Double Trouble in #BJJ, it's just a catchy way of saying that the main form of resistance to attacking a limb comes from the opposite limb. As you isolate a limb to attack it, try to find ways to impede the remaining limb from defending.

In #bjj there's lots of things you should "always protect" while defending.
-Inside space
-Extended limbs
-Neck
-Flanks
After that, you need to keep YOUR HEAD👦🏽 free if you want to have any chance of recovery. Notice its importance in this clip

To look like a grappling wizard in #jiujitsu all you need to do is be 1 step ahead, not 5 (which is mentally impossible). As soon as the door closes, pick the lock or go around. #bjj

John Danaher's back control for #bjj
-Always attack lying to 1 side
-Chest to oppnt spine
-Oppnt 👤trapped between your strangle arm and👤
-Oppnt hips within knee line (body triangle = best)
-Your hands covering oppnt's hands
-Cross gripping oppnt wrists gives most control
February 23, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Back control for #bjj
Control both sides of body to prevent oppnt rotating. Options:
-Pinch both shoulders w/ seatbelt
-Backheel hooks on oppnt hips
-Diagonal control of 1 hip and 1 shoulder
-Body triangle

Always aim to: Trap oppnt's👤between your strangle arm and👤
February 22, 2025 at 12:45 AM
John Danaher's tips for improving your sweeps in #bjj
-Keep oppnt head close (ctre of grav stays connected)
-Keep oppnt head low (weaken structure)
-Remove posts on side you push to
-Move yourself to drive at angle, not from straight under
-"Ken Ken": stay connected and follow!

6 principles to sweep someone in #bjj
-Disconnect their feet from the floor
-Push+pull to knock them over
-Trap an arm so they can't post
-Action creates a reaction, use it to your advantage
-Attack 1 limb, control the other to prevent resistance
-Wrestle up when they pull away!
February 20, 2025 at 12:47 AM
Moves applied in a vacuum are useless against experienced resisting oppnts in #bjj
-Break their stance by making them step
-Break their balance and drop them to a hand or elbow or hip or head/shoulders
This will open their defence as they look to correct their balance
February 19, 2025 at 12:47 AM
Creating advantages from defensive/neutral positions in #bjj
-Oppnt arm crosses the centre of your chest (back exposed)
-Oppnt hands on the mat
-Oppnt arms away from their torso (torso exposed)
-Oppnt head lower than their hips
-Oppnt hip on the mat

I watched 30 hours of John Danaher so you don't have to.

He says there are so many techniques in #bjj that you can spend too much time thinking and react too slowly.

We should, instead, focus on tested principles that lead to faster successful reactions.

I'll post one daily

Sunday is the perfect day for #whitebelt s to dive into #jiujitsu study! 🥋📚
Watch match footage, review fundamental techniques (like escapes), and try to understand how they work so you can apply the ideas creatively. Work on them in the coming week. 🌟 #bjj

Do you train #jiujitsu on the weekends? I try to get one #bjj session in and one deep-dive on a topic to prepare for classes in the coming week.

Is your #bjj gym toxic?☣️
The rules should be reasonable for any paying customer💵
If there are cult-like rules stopping you from drinking 💧, getting there late⌚, or taking breaks🛌🏼, Time to start looking for a new gym!

Is your #bjj gym toxic?☣️
If people idolise the coach because of their rank🥋, it's a red flag🚩
A coach should be respected but isn't superhuman. If they show favouritism and nobody minds... Run!🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️

When you're trying to #learn something hard like #bjj, use these principles:
🌍 Big picture first, details last
🧠 Concepts before techniques
🏗️ Build from fundamentals, not the other way around
💧 Stick with a topic until it’s saturated, then cycle back around ♻️

How often should you train #bjj (or any #skill)? I've noticed:
2️⃣hr/wk = barely remembering.
4️⃣hr/wk = maintain & small skill imprvmt↗️.
>6️⃣hr/wk = large skill imprvmt⤴️!

Want to be really good?
Use ~1/3 of that as #drilling time⌚ (not just rolling)
Then ADD+ ~1/3 of that as solo #study time⌚
