A record number of people in the UK died while homeless in 2024.

A total of 1,611 homeless people died in the UK during the year, a 9% increase over 2023. The majority of deaths resulted from suicide or street drugs.

The EIR provide a stronger right to information than the Freedom of Information Act. There is no ministerial veto over decisions, time limits for disclosure are tighter and a wider range of disclosures can be ordered on public interest grounds.

The FCDO retains its spot at the bottom of the timeliness rankings having provided late responses in 42% of cases.

Central government FOI statistics for April to June 2025 are out and show the highest number of requests in a quarter since 2019 coupled with a significant reduction in delays.
