Today MLA Brodie introduced a transphobe to the Legislature

AG Sharma’s reply:

“We have a party in the opposition that decided their tent was so big that it included intolerance, racism and hate. When they tolerate it in their party, they tolerate it in this province, and they bring it to the House

I agree!

And that’s what Eby should be saying, not pretending the problem is that there’s just not a proponent.

Let’s say what we mean, not raise straw men to hide behind.
canadensis.bsky.social
It pains me to even approach defending Danielle Smith and pipelines.

Eby is intentionally missing her point on pipelines. No proponent will come forward while gov’ts refuse to even entertain the idea.

AB gives us more than enough reason to criticise them, we don’t need to be disingenuously obtuse.

This essay has many well-written ideas.

The one that will stick with me is that in not providing essential services government is effectively taxing the public who have to pay for it themselves.

The difference being the public pays the tax directly to business, giving gov’t plausible deniability.

In the late modern world something like socialism is the only possible way of embodying Christian love in concrete political practices.

As if we needed more reasons not to travel to the USA:

Burbank's air traffic control tower was temporarily unstaffed Monday, the FAA said. Flights were delayed because of "staffing," noting that its tower had "zero" air traffic controllers.

Israel abducted Canadian citizens in international waters on their way to provide humanitarian aid to a nation Canada now recognizes as sovereign.

What is our government doing about it?

Sweden demanded the return of its citizens within 24 hours.

Canada “urged” Israel to “ensure their safety.”

30 years from now, the conversation will be on what we did when the economy became too weak to stand on its own. Debt is going to rise as it’s the only way to overhaul the economy at the pace the moment demands.

That needn’t be shocking. Some crises demand austerity. What we face isn’t one of them.

Can a constitutional law lawyer explain to me how it’s even possible for Alberta to leave Canada?

Unlike Québec, which joined Canada and can choose to leave, Alberta was created by Canada from federal land.

I suppose Albertans can leave, but don’t they have to give back the land?

I used to pretend the ‘big three’ were NORTH American carmakers, but they have clearly always been USA automakers, an enemy of Canada.

Since the economic warfare waged on us by the USA I find their ridiculously oversized pickup trucks scream MAGA.

Time to buy from our allies in Europe and Asia.

I don’t like the emerging use of the euphemism “street disorder” here in BC when we refer to inadequately supported mental health and social disease causing homelessness and addiction.

It allows a whiff of ‘law and order’ as a solution that wouldn’t otherwise be acceptable for a health problem.

There is no dissent that nature is fundamental to the economy,” Cambridge economist Coyle observed, “The theory is solid and widely accepted.”

Yet, “evidence of the recession in the natural world receives relatively little attention. If it were as central to policy as the CPI, we’d be in a panic.”

Unless of course the international agreement relates to an area of federal jurisdiction, in which case provincial legislation is of no force or effect.
