“Perhaps it is more illuminating to ask: is Alberta an actual province, or just a company town? The oil patch has intruded so far into Albertan institutions it is difficult to discern where private interests end, and public government begins.”

Canada has a higher calling than wasting time and political capital indulging fossil fuel fever dreams.

“A second inflatable frog has now been spotted wiggling through Portland.”
Marco Rubio whispers into Donald Trump's ear.

CARNEY: I think about Canada...I think about expanding Canada elsewhere – our relationships elsewhere. We don't have imperial ambitions.

BUTTS: I thought we were going to break some news there.

CARNEY: That's the problem, you get in this office and all of a sudden you're an empire.

danielle smith strikes me as the kind of politician who would 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 say one thing in public and another in private

David Eby fires back at Danielle Smith's 'un-Canadian' comments: "We all deserve the same opportunity for the same federal funding for our projects as she does for hers. That's not un-Canadian. That is fair. And there is nothing more Canadian than fairness. That is a core national value."

Smith on the role of the Charter and judiciary in protecting minority rights: "I go back to some of the predecessors of the Charter...judges can render an opinion on whether something impacts rights but ultimately it comes to the parliament to decide whether or not they're going to amend their law."
sarobertson.bsky.social
Smith on the notwithstanding clause and parliamentary supremacy: "I think that we shouldn't allow nine unelected appointed judges to subvert the will, the democratic will, of duly elected members."

COCHRANE: Jason Kenney...called [David Eby] an ideological zealot, said he belonged to the 'mud hut wing' of the B.C. New Democrats.

SMITH: I might say it a little bit more diplomatically. I think that the Premier of British Columbia is behaving in a way that's unconstitutional and un-Canadian.

KINEW: "We have to be able to make a deal and, you know, to play nice when we're in the Oval Office, 'Oh yes, look at all the gold. It looks really nice. Way to go.'"

LeBLANC: "We have indicated that we wanted to be a constructive partner as the Americans elaborate the details of a Golden Dome. Those conversations are ongoing. But the discussion around strengthening and deepening the security arrangement was much broader than one specific project."
sarobertson.bsky.social
LeBlanc on earlier rumours of a deal on steel: "I think I said in the House of Commons yesterday that we don't have an expectation of a detailed deal, so because some unnamed sources speculated doesn't change our state of mind when we got here."
sarobertson.bsky.social
LeBlanc on the timing of securing a deal: "You've known me for a while, I’m sort of an optimistic guy. I said at parliamentary committees last week that I remain optimistic, and I’m more optimistic today after those discussions at the White House than I was when we arrived in Washington yesterday."
sarobertson.bsky.social
LeBlanc on Carney-Trump meeting: "I thought it was the first time that I'd seen the President speak publicly in detail about how difficult necessarily these conversations are because we have probably the two most integrated economies in the world in terms of trading partners of the United States."
sarobertson.bsky.social
LeBLANC: "We concluded what I think was a successful, positive, substantive conversation with President Trump on trade issues, on a number of other international issues, but the focus very much today, both in the Oval Office conversation and in the cabinet room, was on the trading relationship."

David Eby will win this fight seven days a week and twice on Sundays.

He's not the one opening the door to separatist referendums and forever blaming Canada for everything that goes wrong in his province.

TRUMP: Because I want to be a great man too

Trump says "we will be having tariffs on Canada, we always had tariffs, actually, Canada charged us big tariffs on agricultural products. We are king in being screwed on trade, and I am not talking about just Canada." Blames former presidents for it.

Trump: "We call them the water drugs. The drugs that come in through water. They're not coming. There are no boats anymore. Frankly, there are no fishing boats. There are no boats out there period, if you want to know the truth. Does anybody go fishing anymore?"

Trump: "We're competing for the same business. That's the problem. That's why I keep mentioning one way to solve that problem is a very easy way."
