The most effective Democratic messenger of my lifetime is the guy who broke every single rule Democrats are currently trying to follow: Barack Hussein Obama, the guy with the weird name who talked like a professor, made sweeping appeals to higher principles, and never once appeared salt-of-the-earth

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Which policies, specifically, do you find most objectionable?

Pam Bondi admits she spoke to Apple to "get the ICEBlock app taken down." Sounds an awful lot like coercion to suppress disfavored speech to me. A clear violation of the 1st Amendment.

Bondi claims that the ICEBlock app was "criminal in that people were posting where ICE officers lived"

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is in Portland meeting with ICE, Border Patrol and DHS officials; Nick Sortor posted video of Noem saying a prayer for the safety of their officers at the start of the meeting.

Zohran making a statement that he had to know would enrage the more deranged of his supporters is more evidence of him juice-having I think.

I'm going to gently suggest that Scandinavia is *slightly* different than Canada, and that our politics will probably reflect that.
maxfawcett.bsky.social
Plenty of folks on the climate left are, in fact, suggesting that.

But which policy, specifically, are you most upset about Carney eliminating?
maxfawcett.bsky.social
It's a fact that climate change/climate policy dropped precipitously in salience once Trump was re-elected. The Liberals campaigned accordingly.

If, say, the NDP wants to make it their big issue? Let's see how Canadians feel about it.
maxfawcett.bsky.social
My argument is that you should focus on the climate policies that matter and appreciate elected officials who spend their political capital accordingly.

Guys, every person you see on Fox News in a mask is just Robert O'Neill, retired Navy Seal and occasional Fox News contributor. He's the former Antifa, former Gazan, former gang member. His eyes are very unique.

And if Canada immediately shut-in its production of fossil fuels, what would that do for climate change?

Sad to say: nothing. Because the global oil market is dominated by a cartel that holds spare production at the ready to manage prices.

Poilievre would have immediately repealed the industrial carbon tax, the EV mandate, and a host of other policies.

The EV mandate is paused, not repealed, and the industrial carbon price (which delivers the bulk of the emissions reductions) remains the government's top priority.
maxfawcett.bsky.social
The alternative is the sort of halting back-and-forth, advance and retreat, that has gotten us exactly nowhere on climate policy.

Look at America right now.

The Norwegian government is disproportionately funded by fossil fuels. If your thesis had any merit then you'd be able to point to the fascism funded by Norway's fossil fuels.

You can't.
maxfawcett.bsky.social
Sure. Democracy is messy and complicated and we're often forced to choose between imperfect outcomes and lesser evils.

But perfect remains the enemy of good.
maxfawcett.bsky.social
The biggest driver of Canada's emissions reductions, by far, will be the industrial carbon price. That's what Carney has clearly decided to defend.

You're welcome to regret supporting that, I suppose.

David Eby will win this fight seven days a week and twice on Sundays.

He's not the one opening the door to separatist referendums and forever blaming Canada for everything that goes wrong in his province.

I know I've been glazing Denmark like crazy lately — and honestly I'm not sure how they're going to enforce this — but nevertheless I am 100% behind governments banning social media for children under the age of 15. ❤️🇩🇰

Let's imagine, just for the sake of argument, that he didn't eliminate the carbon tax.

Who's the prime minister today, and what are his climate policies?
